Darlene Ann Smith
Darlene Ann Smith died on January 4, 2026. She was born on March 21, 1936, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Melvin and Roberta Light.
She went to Church twice a week and relied on Jesus returning to take us home. She was sweet and outgoing to people in public and asked if they are close to Jesus. She set up Nativity scenes on Christmas with detailed statues in the 80’s and probably early 90’s. She raised three grandchildren Zachary James Whitfield, Shannon Dale Smith, and Nathaniel Shea Smith and took them all over for fun and excitement and took them bowling whenever they wanted to. She took care of her grandson Zachary James Whitfield when he was an adult. She let her son Clayton Dale Smith stay with her. She set up year-round lighted signs saying “Jesus is Lord”.
She was a substitute teacher for B.I.S.D. for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Dale Smith; mother and father, Roberta and Melvin Light; son, Clayton Dale Smith; great-grandson, Dominic Smith, and son-in law, Mike Jorgenson.
Survivors include her grandchildren, Zachary Whitfield, Shannon Smith, Nathaniel Smith, Shimarah Mehrotra, Stephen Smith; children, Stan Smith and Teresa Mehrotra; brothers, Jim Light, Gordon Light, and Roy Light; her sons-in-law, Kishore Mehrotra and Jimmy Whitfield; and daughters-in law, Linda Smith, Anita Whitfield, and Leslie Smith.
