Darrell Troppy

April 4, 1961 - December 25, 2021

“It’s [art] the one thing that I know that has never left me. If you locked me up I would find a way to do something artistic, perhaps paint on the floor? It never leaves you. You’d become less whole. I think every artist experiences this feeling more than once in their life. You pray, you wish and you hope that feeling never leaves you – the passion that wakes you, the driving force and the reason you exist.”-Darrell Troppy

Darrell Troppy, 60, of Beaumont, Texas died Saturday, December 25, 2021. Darrell was survived by his husband Eddie Bates; his brother Daniel Troppy and his spouse, Mitch Waldman. Darrell was born April 7, 1961 in Harlingen, Texas to Fay Idell Passmore and Herman Joseph Troppy.

Darrell, a beloved Beaumont visionary and artist, has showcased his works internationally—his art was celebrated as a prize-winner at the Louvre Museum in Paris, France in 2017. He mastered every art medium—showing his own, unique style, color choice and brush manipulation. His enchanting and brilliant muraled utility boxes that line the streets of Beaumont are a gift of the artists’ legacy.

A Celebration of Life for Darrell will take place on January 1, 2022—Lakeside at The Event Center | 700 Crockett Street, Beaumont, Texas. Cremation arrangements by Broussard’s Crematorium.

My heart is broken! Darrell, you were a diamond among us. A bright, creative, shining star that left us way too soon. Despite the distance between us, we remained friends through the years. You always made me feel special every time we spoke or saw each other. But you did that for all of us because that was who you were! I am better for knowing you and was always inspired by your many talents. Heaven certainly gained an angel, and I KNOW you will be watching over us. This is not goodbye, my dear sweet friend, just an I’ll see you when I see you, and I’ll be listening because I know you’ll be with me always. Love you.
