David Lee Truax

August 20, 1957 - November 24, 2025

David Lee Truax, born August 20, 1957 in Beaumont, Texas was united with his Savior in eternal rest on November 24, 2025 at his home in Hemphill, Texas.

David was a respected member of the bass fishing community. A tournament fisherman, he continued to share his love for the sport in retirement, serving as a guide on Toledo Bend Reservoir. As a younger man, in the spirit of the first Apostles, God called him while he was on the lake fishing. David was also a beloved little league baseball coach. His players were taught not just the fundamentals of throwing, catching, and hitting but about hustle, heart, teamwork, and sportsmanship. The lessons he instilled were foundational for molding boys into young men.

His greatest love of all was the Lord. From that day on the water forty years ago until his final moments on earth, he was committed to growing in his relationship with Jesus. Convicted of our need for a Savior, he shared the Gospel with everyone he knew. He instilled that faith in his son. They often spent hours reading the Bible and discussing matters of faith. By God’s grace, David lived as a good and faithful servant, and he has entered into the eternal joy of his Lord.

David is survived by his son, Daren, daughter-in-law, Maci, and grandson Sterling Truax. He also leaves behind his mother, Bonnie Truax Breaux, his brothers Paul and Mike Truax, their families, and many other beloved relatives. He was preceded in eternity by his father, Harvey Truax, his former wife Pamela Evans Truax, aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents.

A gathering of Mr. Truax’s family and friends will be from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., Saturday, November 29, 2025, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. His graveside service will follow at 1:00 p.m., at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 4955 Pine Street, Beaumont, officiated by Dr. Raymond McHenry.

Flowers are appreciated, but if you are so moved, donations can be made to Fishers of Men Texas East Division.

David was a good man. He had encyclopedic fishing knowledge. I’m thankful for the time I had with him. 1 John 3:24 And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.

David vouched for me when I joined the Beaumont Bass Anglers Federation Club in the 80’s. I regret not having the opportunity to fish in the same boat. An early BASS tournament competitor, the sport will miss him.
