David Lucas Key
David Lucas Key, 70, formerly of Beaumont, Texas, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2024, in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was born on October 25, 1954, to William C. Key and Katherine Petkovsek Key and grew up in Beaumont, Texas.
David graduated from Beaumont High School in 1973 and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in business administration from the University of Texas in 1978. He became a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in 1989 and joined the Institute of Internal Auditors in 2002. His career included roles as an Oil and Gas Auditor for the University of Texas System and later as an Auditor for the Governor’s Office of the State of Texas.
David was a beloved son, brother, uncle, great-uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend. Known for his quiet strength, quick wit, and humor, he was devoted to his family and cherished time at the beach.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William C. “Bill” Key and Katherine Petkovsek Key; his brother, James W. “Jim” Key, M.D.; his grandparents, Lucas and Edith Petkovsek, and William and Florence Key; and numerous aunts and uncles.
David is survived by his sisters, Anne Key Young (Jack W. Young) and Mara Ellen Key; his nieces and nephews, Courtney Young-Law (Chris Law), Brent Young (Amanda Young), Carter Young (Emily Young), Thomas W. Key (Jen Cook), Mackenzie Worthing (Zachary Worthing), Ashley Fillips (Drew Fillips), Haley Poorman (Scott Poorman), Keylee Sudduth (Micah Sudduth), and Heath T. Koop (Maxine Pulido); and his great-nieces and nephews, Calder and Corina Law, Landry and Bexley Young, Davis Young, Marguerite, Jean D’Arc, and Helena Worthing, and Corbin and Matthew Fillips. He is also survived by his aunt, Verdie Hanks Petkovsek, and many cousins.
A gathering of David’s family and friends will begin at 2:00 p.m., with his Memorial Service to follow at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont, Texas. A private interment will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.

David’s life was defined by love, humor, and dedication to family and friends. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
