Coach Drake

September 19, 1943 - September 30, 2024

David Lynn Drake, Sr., 81, of Silsbee, died Monday, September 30, 2024.  He was born on September 19, 1943, in Silsbee, to Bobbie Lee Williamson Drake and Francis Clyde Drake.

Survivors include his wife, of thirty-five years, Lana Sue Drake; children, David Lynn Drake, Jr. of Silsbee; Chance Noonkester of Lumberton; and Michelle Drake Mackey and her husband, Kyle, of Lumberton; grandchildren, Kalynn Drake Ligon and her husband, Ty, of Silsbee; David Garrett Drake and his wife, Jennifer, of Silsbee; Karli Padia and her husband, Josh, of Lumberton; Maci Carson and her husband, Lee, of Boyd; Kortney Mackey Calhoun and her husband, Josh, of Silsbee; Kanon Mackey of Silsbee; and Kolten Mackey and his wife, Cassie, of Lumberton; eleven great-grandchildren; and siblings, Ann Hollister of Lumberton and Clyde Drake and his wife, Jeannie, of Sealy.

He is preceded in death by his parents; great-granddaughter, Tyler Ligon; brother, Thomas Drake; and sister, Alice Calloway.

A gathering of Mr. Drake’s family and friends will be 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, October 3, 2024, at Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee.  His funeral service will be 3:00 p.m., Friday, October 4, 2024, at Broussard’s, with his interment to follow at R.S. Farmer Cemetery, Silsbee.

The Drake family would like to thank all for your prayers, calls, cards, flowers, and food during this time.  Special thanks to Hospice Care Team for all the kindness and care given to David, and especially to Dr. Chad Hammett, and to Mill Creek Rehab.

    I had him as a coach at Austin Jr. High. I was 14. He was a great coach, firm with discipline & a mentor at the same time. He will be remembered. My prayers are with those that loved him & those he loved. Rest in peace Coach.
