Dennis Huckaby

October 6, 1938 - September 23, 2021

Dennis Edwin Huckaby of Lumberton, made his journey home to be with his wife and our Lord on Thursday, September 23, 2021. He was born on October 6, 1938, in Ville Platte, Louisiana to Carrie Prather Huckaby and Dennis Fleet Huckaby.

Dennis had a passion for teaching and coaching. He put in countless number of hours with many hockey players. One year, they even made it to Spain for the Olympics.  Dennis was inducted into the coach’s Roller Hockey Hall of Fame.

Dennis retired from Mobile Oil Refinery as an Electrical Engineer in the early 90s. Then Dennis was called to Newfoundland, Canada to help restart a refinery after it had burned to the ground.  After he had retired for the second time, just a couple years later, Dennis found himself working again for the Beaumont Enterprise throwing a paper route.

Dennis was a big guy with an even bigger heart; he loved everyone and treated them like family. Survivors include his brother, Roy Huckaby and his wife, Pam; children, Robin Mclemore and her husband, Mike; Bill Mitchell and his wife, Debra; Susan Lowe; Pamela Stevens; and Barbara Mitchell; two very special nephews, Karl Huckaby and his wife, Joli and Keith Huckaby and his wife, Teresa; grandchildren, Jennifer and Jessica Boccio; Stephanie Goodman; Casey Mitchell and his wife, Dee Ann; Christina Odom and her husband, Kenneth; Angela Cluck and her husband, David; Ashley Guidry and her husband, Joseph; Kamron Mitchell; Chelsea lowe; and Christopher Stevens; fourteen great-grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren, all whom he loved dearly.

Dennis is preceded into death by his loving wife, Glorious “Gloria” Margaret Huckaby; parents, Carrie Prather Huckaby and Dennis Fleet Huckaby; and grandson, William Mitchell Jr.

A gathering of Mr. Huckaby’s family and friends will be 12:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m., Monday, September 27, 2021, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. His graveside service will follow at 3:00 p.m., at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

    Robin, Huck, and Pam our sincere condolences. Dennis was a great coach, mentor, and person. Not just in the skating rink, but in life. He had a profound impact in my life and I am thankful to have known such a caring, wonderful, and loving person. Thanks for the memories Dennis! You will be missed.

    Dennis and I went to church at Lamar Baptist as teenagers. His mother and my mother were friends. Several of us would go to the famous Pig Stand after church and Dennis and Roy would show us some of their skating routines. I am sorry to hear of his death.
