Diane Grace LaPoint

December 25, 1945 - June 22, 2023

Diane Grace LaPoint (Me-Me) 77, of Nederland Texas peacefully passed from this earth on June 22nd, 2023, at Baptist Hospital, in Beaumont, Texas after a brief illness. She was born on December 25th, 1945, in Luling, Texas. She is preceded in death by her husband James Andrew LaPoint and son Kelly Lloyd LaPoint.

Raised in Luling, San Antonio, and Port Neches, she attended Beautician School and then Lamar University where she received her CNA certificate. After marrying James LaPoint, she and her family moved from Nederland, Texas to Alaska where she raised 5 children off the grid in a log cabin. Diane worked with and trained Alaskan sled dogs training for the Iditarod. After several years of living in Alaska, the family returned to Nederland where she faithfully served the local community. From being team mom to Secretary of Nederland Junior League Football she supported kids sports and athletics for many years. Later in life she enjoyed her role as Director of the Senior Citizens Center. She spent countless hours assisting with fundraisers, meals on wheels, community activities, and hosting the Nederland High School Athletics weekly football dinners. She loved her Nederland Bulldogs but remained and Indian at heart. She stayed active with Relay for Life, volunteered from time to time for the Circle of Hope and shared her time with various other city holiday functions. Diane was devoted to her church family at Crossroad/Cornerstone Church where she enjoyed helping with Sunday school, vacation bible school and the church’s daycare. Diane never once met a stranger, she never walked away from a challenge, and dedicated her life to her family and the service of others. She truly cared for others and made sure they always had what they needed long before considering herself.

Her greatest joy was being “Maw-Maw” and “Me-Me” to her 11 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandson that is on the way. Grandchildren; Sasha Nicole, Kambri Nicole and her husband, Wil, Jordan James and his wife Abby, Samantha Rose, Nicole Elizabeth, Caitlyn Leighann and her husband, Chris, Dakota Raye, Hannah Grace and her husband Ethan, Lauryn Faith, Grant Martin, and Jinn James, along with her 6 great grandchildren; Taylor NaCole, Bailey Laine, Saxon William, Delilah Grace, Sawyer Elizabeth, and Wilson James Raye. She blessed them all with her annual holiday events, sharing her recipes and teaching them all how to make her rolls, cooking cornbread dressing, and making cookies and gingerbread houses with each of them.

She is survived by her daughters Dana Lynn Donald and family, Heather Michelle Kaiser and family, Holly Grace Hughes and John, and son Daymon Carlton Ray LaPoint and family.  The family would like to thank the many friends and family that helped and assisted Diane with all her planned events and activities over the years. Her “favorite” John Hughes for his tireless efforts running her everywhere, and Cynthia for her many rides to events, football games, and lunch dates.

A very special thanks to Mr. Brian Chandler and his caring team at Baptist Hospital as well Compassion Hospice for their wonderful care for our mother in her final days. And Mr. Carl and wife Cindy Durden for their spiritual, and faithful church leadership.

A gathering of Ms. LaPoint’s family and friends will begin at 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. Diane and I loved each other dearly. She was my sister in law but she was one of my dearest and closest friends. I will miss her tremendously. I know she is in a wonderful place and I’m happy for her. I will miss our Saturdays that we spin out having lunch and doing whatever but I know that she’s in her heavenly home all. All my love, Aunt Peg

From the moment that I walked in the doors at the Senior Center, Diane and I just clicked. I have enjoyed playing Mexican Train with her for the past 10 months. (I never met someone that would cheat to lose, but that was Diane) My heartfelt prayers for Heather and all of her family to find strength in the Lord to carry on, one day at a time. I will always remember Diane with love and a smile. Pat
