Don Moore

Donald Eugene Moore, Family Man, Stranger to Nobody, Lamar Sports Fanatic, ALL Sports Fanatic – Except the Cowboys, Country Boy turned City Boy, Bowler, Hard Worker, 71, of Lumberton, died Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas – Beaumont. He was born January 14, 1950, in Tracy, Minnesota, to Bernadette Schroer Moore and Robert Moore.

When you think of Don, Donnie, or Donald (nobody called him this – unless he was in trouble, which was probably a lot – you would have to ask his siblings), what is the first thing that comes to mind?

• Love of Family and Friends – Just listen to the stories told about him and realize how many lives he touched and how deeply
• His laugh – You could pick him out of a noisy, crowded room without hesitation
• Lamar Sports – Again, all that you have to do is listen to who was being the most supportive of the players and the referees (supporting them on how to do their job)
• Hard Worker – Always the first one to work to turn the coffee pot on. When asked “when are you going to retire?” His answer would be “Why would I do that?”
• Shorts (any weather/event) – There was never a temperature too cold to justify anything more than shorts. If it was cold enough you would see a sleeveless coat.
• Bowler – Even when he had a “bad game” he was still having a great time

If you answered any of the above, you are correct.  If you have a different answer, there has to be a story behind it that is worth hearing.

Don grew up on a corn and soybean farm that was located in the outskirts of Garvin, MN, population 160ish.  The true definition of “country boy”.

He remained in Minnesota until 1979 when he loaded up his Dodge Lil’ Red Express truck and two passengers, Aaron and Lori, and headed to Beaumont, TX.

After finding a job with Josh Allen, he bought a house in Beaumont where he lived until 2008 when he moved to Lumberton, TX where he bought a house and lived with his pal Wags.

A lot of things happened in his 71 years that are not included in this synopsis of his life.  If you want to know what these “things” resulted in during his life, refer to the bulleted list above.

Donald is survived by his son, Aaron Moore and his wife, Susan, of Port Neches, Texas; grandchildren, Nicholas Moore and his wife, Ashlynn, of Nederland, Texas; Caleb Moore of Houston, Texas; and Yelena Deloney of Port Neches, Texas; great-grandchildren, Sebastian Moore and Malachi Moore, both of Nederland, Texas; siblings, Dennis Moore and his wife, Karen; Elaine Kass and her husband, Gary; and Mary Deutz and her husband, Greg.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Larry Moore and Patricia Moore.

A gathering of Donald’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Time of Sharing at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, November 6, 2021, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont, Texas. His Time of Sharing will be available via Zoom at 7:00 p.m. with the link below.

If you are attending in person or in spirit, please wear what you would normally wear when you were with Don.  He will be dressed as he normally would be (see the bullet about shorts), so should you.
