Donald Roy “Don” East
Donald Roy “Don” East, age 90, of Winnie, Texas, passed away on May 2, 2026, in Winnie.
Donald was born on October 10, 1935, in Edgerly, Louisiana, to Walter Joseph and Marie Baker East. He grew up with strong family values and graduated from East Chambers High School in 1955. Shortly after, he married the love of his life, Mazie Guidry East, on June 23, 1956, beginning a devoted partnership that spanned decades.
Throughout his life, Donald built a reputation as a hardworking and dependable man. He worked as a timekeeper for Southern Pacific Railroad, later as a pipefitter and welder for companies including Goodyear, Brown & Root, and MW Kellogg, and eventually as a production operator in the oilfield with CXY Energy and East Production. His dedication to his work was matched only by his commitment to his family and community.
Donald was a faithful member of St. Louis Catholic Church, where he generously volunteered his time. He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus St. Martin’s Council #3452, proudly serving as a Past Grand Knight. He found joy in fellowship, service, and sharing stories from years past, always impressing others with his sharp mind and vivid memory.
He was known for his warmth and kindness—he never met a stranger and treated everyone like family. To those who knew him, he was more than a husband, father, and grandfather; he was “Dad,” “Papa,” and “Uncle” to many, offering love, guidance, and laughter in abundance.
Donald is survived by his loving wife, Mazie East; his children, Brian East and wife, Bobbie, of Midland, Daphne Matthews and husband, Rip, of Winnie, and Nicole Touchet and husband, Kelley, of Winnie; and his daughter-in-law, Brenda East, of Winnie. He is also survived by his sisters, Gloria Smith and Georgia Mayfield and husband, Roy; and sister-in-law Shirley Johnson and husband, Larry.
He leaves behind a large and cherished legacy of grandchildren: Brooke East, Amber Vogelpohl (husband Jed), Justin Devillier, Keaton Ballard (husband Aaron), Tamara Kirkland (husband Drake), Hayden Touchet (wife Keri), Mattie Kleckley (husband Collin), Torrie East, Kasey Touchet, Shaina Villarreal (husband Noah), Hope East, Jacob East, and Natalie East; as well as numerous great-grandchildren: Brennon Opie, Quinley Vogelpohl, Kory Vogelpohl, Avery Brown, Isaac Brown, Paxton Kleckley, Coen Vogelpohl, Sawyer Kleckley, Blaize Ballard, Amelia Kirkland, Goldie Ballard, Tatum Kirkland, Scottie Rae Villarreal, Conway Ballard, and Miller Kate Kleckley; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Marie East; his stepmother, Anite East; his brother, Roland East; his brother-in-law, Spence Smith; and his son, Todd East.
A man of unwavering kindness and a heart for others, Donald’s legacy will live on in the many lives he touched. His stories, laughter, and generous spirit will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A gathering of Mr. East family and friends will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 6:30 p.m., Friday, May 8, 2026, at Broussard’s, 134 Buccaneer Drive, Winnie, Texas. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 9, 2026, at St. Louis Catholic Church, 315 Buccaneer Drive, Winnie. His interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Winnie.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages acts of kindness in Donald’s memory or donations to Huddle Up for Coach East at East Chambers County Bank to fund the Todd East Memorial Scholarship.

We are so very sorry to hear of Don’s passing. He was such a good and humble man— always had a smile on his face. He was a God-loving man without saying he was a God-loving man. Sending love, thoughts, and prayers your way.
To Brian and rest of family: It was so sad to hear about Don’s death. I mostly only knew him through phone calls when he would call in for some kind of oilfield service work done when I worked at Radley Electric and ROS Vacuum. He was such a funny and personable man and I always hung up from the calls feeling better about my day. I know the family and Winnie community will miss him greatly. RIP Don.
