Donna Marie Mason Fox

October 27, 1960 - September 17, 2022

Donna Marie Mason Fox, RN, 61, of Winnie, died Saturday, September 17, 2022. She was born October 27, 1960, in New Waterford, Nova Scotia, Canada, to Mary Theresa Yuhasz Mason and Thomas Clifford Mason. Donna was a registered nurse and worked in healthcare for many years.

Donna graduated from the Cape Breton Regional Hospital School of Nursing c/o 1992. Shortly after graduating, Donna took on the unimaginable task of leaving everything she had ever known, leaving all her family in Canada, packing up everything she owned along with her 2 oldest children and relocated to Beaumont, TX. Donna worked in healthcare for over 30 years. The majority of her career was spent at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital, but her gypsy soul intrigued her to join the traveling nurse program for several years, which took her from Austin, TX to Wilson, North Carolina to Aloha, Oregon. The gratification she received from her patients and comforting their families was more than just a job to her; it fueled her passion to care for the sick. It was a responsibility and honor she did not take lightly.

As a coal miner’s daughter, Donna was the furthest thing from fancy and the simplest things brought a smile to her face. A hot cup of coffee, a home cooked meal and conversations with her family; friends and loved ones brought her the most immense joy. Growing up, Donna and her siblings spent countless weeks at a time camping on the Mira River. They shared many experiences on these trips, including, visiting friends over a campfire, listening to music, playing cards (which would get pretty competitive at times), and playing horseshoes. Crystal Beach was one of her favorite places to be. Soaking up the sun, listening to the sound of the waves, watching her son fish, long walks along the shoreline collecting shells and beach glass was our mom’s therapy.

Being a Nana to her beautiful 5 grandchildren was her favorite title of all. Watching them grow brought so much joy to her heart. They truly were the light of her life. She would always tell us, “I don’t know how y’all do it”. From the volleyball court, basketball court, baseball and softball fields to band concerts, Donna embraced every opportunity to watch her grandkids do what they love and they made her so very proud.

Our mom was the strongest, most hardworking, ambitious, resilient, and selfless person we know. Her determination to fight this cruel, debilitating disease that robbed her mental and physical strength would never be able to take away the comfort given by the loving arms wrapped around her by Jesus, his Lord and Savior. Although our hearts are broken, we find peace knowing that she is no longer in pain and she was met with open arms by his Lord and Savior, who lead her home.

Through the grace of God, support, and prayers, our family would like to express our sincere thanks to all her colleagues at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Baptist Hospital, Nurse Practitioner Alicia Georgetown and all the wonderful employees at TAN Heathcare, Dr. Raja Sekhar Chennupati and his staff, Dr. Tahir Naqvi and the team at Julie & Ben Rogers Cancer Institute, Dr. Ernest Hymel and the supportive team at Atlus Cancer Center.

She is survived by her mom, Mary Theresa Mason of New Waterford, Nova Scotia, Canada; children, Nicole Lynn Orlando and her husband, Anthony, of Mont Belvieu; Angela Marie DeCuir and her husband, Christopher, of Bridge City; Kayla Paige Fox of Baytown; Trent Justin Fox and his girlfriend, Cyprus McNeese, of Baytown; grandchildren, Kambre Lyn Orlando, Jayden Alexander Dodge, Kinley Marie DeCuir, Cohen James DeCuir, Liam Jesus Alvizo; siblings, Lee Mason; Elizabeth “Betty” Pastuck and her husband, Kevin; Madlyn MacNeil and her husband, Kevin; Lana Johnston and her husband, Garry; Tim Mason and his wife, Brenda; and Mary Julia Mason and her partner, Fabian Henry.

Donna is preceded in death by her dad, Thomas Clifford Mason and her grandfather, Clifford Mason.
