Doreen Lawrence
Doreen Lawrence, 96, of Beaumont, died on Tuesday, August 5, 2025. She was born on October 24, 1928, to Evelyn and Bertram Flood.
Doreen’s priorities were God, Church and Family. In her lifetime she worked in many different fields, she was a Typist, a manager at One Wellington Place Duplex, and later a volunteer at Baptist Hospital of Southeast Texas. During her children’s teenage years, she worked as an Avon Lady. She enjoyed visiting with the ladies and making new friends. When her order came in it filled the entire dining room table and the house smelled of roses for the rest of the week. Doreen also taught Sunday School for the adult women class. She taught for an excess of 50 years until she could no longer see to read. In her spare time, she enjoyed needlepoint, crocheting, sewing, and fishing.
Mom’s love for God guided her throughout her life. She was raised in Michigan in a small dirt floor house where she and her brother had to share a bed and the bathroom was an outhouse. She was an obedient daughter caring for her little brother when her mom was sick or working. As a teen she worked and saved enough money to buy the supplies needed for her Dad to build her a room all her own. One day, mom and her friends went to a church softball game. There she met a handsome man on the visiting team. That man was my Dad, Tom Lawrence. They were married and loved each other greatly for 61 years raising three children. Mom praised The Lord singing in the choir. She shared the word teaching Sunday school. She was a prayer warrior for all (including her children). We will miss seeing her but take comfort knowing her presence will always be with us.
Survivors include her children, Bryan Lawrence and his wife, Correna, of Sour Lake; Maylinn Tarbutton and her husband, David, of Richwood; and Boyd Lawrence of Akron, Ohio; grandchildren, Lee King; Dwight King and his wife, Loretta; Nancy Brown and husband, Jeremy; Bryanna Cooke and husband, Jeramiah; Erica Gold; and Jordan Hardaway and her husband, Jake; great-grandchildren, Macey King, Haley King, Brenden King, Hannah King, Kayla Williams, Kourtlyn Tupper, Jody Cooke, Zoey Cooke, Ian Gold, Emile Hardaway, Elli Whetstone, Ruby Whetstone

You were my lunch mate for two years. I truly miss not having you there. I really do miss you.
Thank you for being her friend.
Doreen was an amazing volunteer in the gift shop at Baptist Hospital, Beaumont, Texas. I was graced with the opportunity to volunteer with her, and she was one of God’s special people on earth. I hope that my heart will be as big and caring as Doreen’s. She was fun to work with, she was deceptive in her appearance. She looked like the stereotypical “little old lady,” but she could hold her own when being good-naturedly teased. God Bless Doreen as she is reunited with her late husband and loved ones. Thank you, Doreen, for so many great moments as we volunteered together. You are legendary and loved
Thank you for remembering.
My heart is soo sad by this. RIP my sweet Ms. Doreen ❤️
Thank you
Bryan, Coreen, and David and families:
I remember your beautiful Mama when y’all lived down the street from us in Hamshire. Bryan, we were in first grade then. She was so nice.
I am so sorry for your family’s loss. My prayers are with you.
Thank you so much for remembering. It has been a while since we last spoke. Bless you.
