Doris Juanita Frazier “Johnnie”
Doris Juanita Frazier “Johnnie” of Beaumont, Texas, peacefully completed her earthly journey on September 10, 2024. Born on August 29, 1931, to Willie Phillips and George Mayo, Doris recently celebrated her 93rd birthday surrounded by family. Raised in DeQuincy, Louisiana, she later moved to the Rio Grande Valley before settling in Beaumont, where she attended Hotel Dieu School of Nursing.
After graduation, she embarked on a lifelong career in nursing and married the love of her life, Robert Edward Frazier, Jr., in December 1953. She began her professional journey in Labor & Delivery at St. Therese Hospital, continuing at St. Elizabeth Hospital in 1962. She assisted in bringing many babies into this world. Nurse Johnnie was highly thought of by every physician she worked for and with. She proudly retired from the OB-GYN practice of Dr. Armitage Harper and Dr. Henry Clarke. Her career in nursing perfectly complemented her servant heart, and she left an indelible mark on her patients and colleagues. She continued on her nursing career after retirement being the best and most steadfast nurse to all her children, grandchildren, great grands and anyone who needed her. Her most cherished role was the unwavering dedication she showed as her beloved husband’s nurse, supporting him with love and care until the end of his journey. A dear friend and colleague of Elizabeth said this, “Give her my love. She was the best nurse I ever had. I will forever be grateful to her for getting me through my fertility issues and pregnancy. God bless her.”
She is survived by her sister, Dorothy Baker Smith; her daughter, Elizabeth Frazier Accardo and her husband, Sam; her grandchildren, Stephanie Blanchette, Mallory Ewing and her husband, Michael, Chelsea Frazier, and Katie Frazier; and her beloved great-grandchildren, Holly, Hunter, Hayden, Harper, Abigail, Hank, and Jasper. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Edward Frazier, Jr.; her sons, Robert (Buddy) Frazier, III and Michael Frazier; her sister, Georgia Knowles; her brother, Kenneth Mayo; and her granddaughter, Holly Elizabeth Blanchette.
She was a devoted reader and philanthropist, donating generously to almost anything that arrived in her mailbox. From Sports Illustrated to Arbor Foundation, political parties to children’s Indian ministries and beyond, her response was always, “They need it more than I do.”
In her prime, she loved gardening and filled her time being “Nonnie” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She volunteered in their classrooms, teaching Kumon, reading to kids, and spending countless hours in carpool lines. Nonnie took great joy in raising her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, keeping meals on the stove, sharing laughter, and being their biggest cheerleader. Telling stories, watching baseball and dance recitals were her bread and butter. She will be greatly missed and forever cherished by all who knew her. Her legacy is engrained and will certainly live on through the lives of her family. Nonnie’s love and pride for us were never-ending. We extend heartfelt gratitude to her wonderful caregivers, who provided round-the-clock care during her final days, Cathy, Joje, Lydia, Leah, Marie and Michelle and Altus Hospice.

No wonder my mother loved Johnnie so. We always loved to go visit the Fraziers. Your mom loved to laugh & I remember her pointing out things to make us laugh.
I was recalling Frazier family stories to my grandchildren & sang the
‘Tootie-wibbit tu-dum-day’ song, but don’t remember the last line. All good memories of Tyrrell Park neighborhood days. God bless you all as you carry on with Johnnie’s goodness in you.
Beautiful words written about such a special woman. So thankful to have even known her a little over the years. She radiated love and kindness, opened her door with a smile and always tried to feed you. Her love continues especially through my friend Mallory who greets you with the warmest embrace and is oh so easy to love 🤍 thoughts and prayers to all
Johnnie was an absolute precious soul, and such a kind and exemplary nurse. I met her in 1976, in the office of Dr. Clarke, and I will never, ever forget her! Prayers of peace and comfort for all of her friends and family are offered.
