Doris Mae Cascio
Doris Mae Cascio, of Beaumont, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2023, at Harbor Hospice after a long illness. She fought the hard fight, having lived on this earth for 94 years. She was born on August 3, 1928, in Fletcher, Texas, to Bruce and Lela Will.
Doris worked 25 years for the Diocese of Beaumont. Later, she enjoyed volunteering at St. Elizabeth Hospital. In June of 2022, she retired from Baptist Hospital after 15 years of service, having given 5,037 hours of her time at the Information Desk. She loved watching game shows and working her “Word Search” books, of which she determined kept her mind “sharp.”
Survivors include her brothers, Ted and Otis Will; daughters, Lela Gilchriest (Buzzie) of Beaumont, Texas; Katherine Cleland (Randy) of Pearland, Texas; grandchildren, Jason Dennis (Megan) of Clear Lake, Iowa; Melanie Dillman (Chris) of Tucson, Arizona; Ginger Robinson of Covington, Louisiana; Dallas Cleland of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; and Rocky Cleland of Pearland, Texas; great-grandchildren, Gigi and Ellie Dennis; and Cameron Robinson of Madisonville, Louisiana, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joe “Honey” Cascio; siblings, Bernice Williams, Bruce Will, Homer Will, Grover Will, Juanita Jordan, Madeline Boyd, Pansy Will, Rose Smith, and Lois Mansfield.
We would like to express our gratitude to the caregivers who have loved and cared for our Mom over the years, especially Dr. Gwendolyn Lavalais, and the East Wing nurses at Harbor Hospice who assisted her during her last days.
She may not be the person we remember at this moment, but we have our memories of the Mom and Memaw we loved for so many years — feisty, loving, strong and determined!
A gathering of Mrs. Cascio’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Her funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 19, 2023, at Broussard’s, with her interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Chaplain’s Fund at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas, 3080 College Street, Beaumont, Texas 77701-4606.

I had the pleasure of taking care of Mrs Doris at Mid Jeff Hospital in Beaumont. I just learned of her passing and I am heartbroken. She was the reason I came to work on the days she stayed with us. We cut up and laughed about everything while she was in my care. Lela and the family have my deepest sympathies. It was an honor and pleasure to be her nurse during her stay with us.
Anthony! I went to Mid Jeff to tell you about mom but it was during your days off. I’m so sorry I missed you. Thank you for your kindness while taking care of mom. I could always count on you to return my calls when I couldn’t reach her. Keep doing what you do— you have a good and caring heart! Take care. Lela

My father, Roland Braud, Jr., was 8 years older than your mom. He passed in 2008, but during his life he spoke of your mom often with such admiration and genuine respect. Our parents leave us a wonderful heritage when they live loving godly lives.

Just reading today, the 21st, about your mother. She was a lovely person, admired for her zest for life, volunteering with her mobility challenges. We usually arrived for Mass at St. Anne about the same time, and I waited after to catch the door. She was an inspiration to me and has been in my thoughts so often. I lost touch with so many in the last few years with the loss of my husband and Covid. Prayers for all.

Prayers and sympathy for the family. We got to know Doris when she was my apartment manager. Sweet lady and friend. May she rest peacefully in the arms of Jesus and perpetual light shine upon her.
My goodness, y’all knew mom back in the day! I remember her days as apartment manager. She was definitely good at “managing” and was all about rules and regulations and ran a tight ship at the complex! Thank you for taking the time to comment 🙂

She had small feet but I have some big shoes to feel. They don’t make ‘em like her anymore that’s for sure!
Lela, You know your Mom was another mom to me for a long time. She was great and sweet and always wanted to know what was going on! She will always be remember !,, PRAYERS TO FAMILY. Paul always told me when he would see her at Floyd’s with that smile she had. She loved life and people.

Your mom was one of the kindest people I have ever met. Visiting her over the years with Kennedy brought me so much joy. I always told people she was my favorite volunteer. We have so many pictures together but my favorite is probably her kissing Kennedy. My heart is broken but I know she is in heaven smiling and waving at everyone.
She loved her some Kennedy and always said Kennedy helped her to walk again. I’m sure she will be volunteering her time in heaven and lining everyone up:)

I am so very sorry for your loss. Your Mom was a spitfire, to say the least, and a model of aging gracefully. I only hope to be as active and outgoing for as long as she was and as giving of myself and my time. Prayers for all of you for healing and comfort in the days ahead.

Lela and family..It doesn’t seem possible that we will not have the pleasure of your mom’s dancing eyes and quick wit. I first met her while volunteering at Christus St. Elizabeth and renewed our friendship again at Baptist Hospital. I always teased her that she was truly “the entergizer bunny.” I will miss her so much.
Thank you. She was commonly referred to as the “energizer bunny.” She was a woman of real grit!
Doris was an inspiration to everyone. She always had a smile on her face and projected positive energy that was uplifting. God Bless and keep Doris and her family in His hands always.

Sweet sweet Doris. Enjoyed talking to her @ the information desk where she was a faithful volunteer. My grandson used to work on her computer & she would always ask me how her boyfriend was doing. Such a wonderful lady and I send condolences to her family.
She loved volunteering. I’m happy she could provide a service for as long as she did.
