Dorothy Dutschmann
Dorothy Dutschmann, 90, of Nederland, died peacefully Tuesday, July 13, 2021. She was born September 22, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois, to Minnie and Walter Schroeder. Dorothy was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Dorothy received her bachelor’s degree from Concordia University Chicago; her master’s degree from Northern Arizona University; and her diagnostician certification from McNeese State University, Louisiana. Her dedication to education, as a teacher and diagnostician, was steadfast throughout her life. She retired from Little-Cypress Mauriceville ISD but continued working in Nederland ISD as a diagnostician.
Dorothy was a strong and wonderful woman who loved her family deeply. She was an incredible writer who shared her gift with family and friends during memorable moments in their lives through her poetry. We always looked forward to her yearly Christmas poem, which was a delight and inspiration.
Dorothy was a faithful member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Nederland. She touched the lives of many people in her ninety years, and she will be deeply missed.
Survivors include her children, Charles Blohm and wife, Brenda; Carla Denney and husband, Bill; and Fred Blohm and wife, Sarah; adopted son, Bryan Wiley; stepchildren, Eric Dutschmann; Craig Dutschmann and wife, Joelle; and Dana Dutschmann; sister, Arlene Jank and husband, Orville; sister-in-law, Juanita Metzler; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
As many others have experienced, Dorothy dealt with her share of challenges in life having had three husbands precede her in death: Wilbert “Dutch” Dutschmann, husband of thirty-three years; Ken Wiley; and Charles Blohm, Sr. She is also preceded in death by her brother, Art Schroeder; and stepson, Greg Dutschmann.
A memorial service for Mrs. Dutschmann will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 21, 2021, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 2711 Helena Avenue, Nederland. Her cremation arrangements were handled through Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 2711 Helena Avenue, Nederland, Texas 77627.

I remember Aunt Dorothy as a remarkably strong, capable, confident,, resilient woman. I wish that geographical distance had not prevented our families from visiting more often over the years. My heart goes out to her children and their families as they adjust to her physical absence from their lives. She will always be a part of them. I send my love to you all. Judy

Sincere condolences to Dorothy's family. This l robust woman taught both sons Robert and Merl in Little Cypress Elementary School, and did a great job. She had a real insight into their personalities and abilities and was an outstanding teacher. A truly dedicated person, she came to our house on several occasions to discuss their performances with my ex-wife and I. So very saddened to hear of Mrs. Dutschmann’s passing. She was my 5th grade teacher at LC-M and I’ve often thought of her through the years. Mrs. Dutschmann was a great teacher and a kind person! My thoughts and prayers go out to her family.
While addressing Christmas cards, I read of Dorothy’s passing. I remembered that last year her tattered card returned to me with only her name intact. I was trying to find if she had moved and learned that, indeed, she had. I am so saddened. She worked with me in NISD for years. She was a delightful and talented person. I received those beautiful Christmas poems each year until they stopped, and I got a special one when I retired . I regret that I missed her memorial service. She and Dutch had a full life with their combined family and travels. She was such a sharp person. I admired her. I loved her.
We are saddened to learn of Dorothy’s passing. She was a wonderful inspiration and will certainly leave a legacy of grace to those who knew her. Our condolences and sympathy to all of the family even as we celebrate her eternal life with Jesus Christ.
