Dorothy Elizabeth Hawley
Our precious and beloved Dorothy Elizabeth Hawley, 96, aka Aunt Dot, Lisa, GrannyBird, left the building and has gone on to her reward, August 31, 2020, at Silsbee Oaks Healthcare in Silsbee, TX. Lisa had an infectious personality as all who knew her can attest:) Her gifts were the unique ability to share enthusiasm, showed genuine interest in other’s accomplishments and was always so complimentary! She was born October 7, 1923, to Albert Lee and Margaret Moye Lloyd in Honey Island, TX.
As one of the oldest female Marine Veterans in Texas, having served during World War II, she chauffeured Bob Hope and Bing Crosby to service performances in California. Her military experience unlocked a well-traveled life of education and experience for a Southeast Texas girl who had big dreams, a roaming imagination and an artistic temperament. Graduating from high school at 16, she attended University of Hawaii, UCLA, and graduated from Baylor School of Anesthesia as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist and practiced in California, Texas, Arkansas, and Missouri for over thirty years. Having majored in Psychology and minored in Micro-Brain Surgery she had a psychology TV talk show in Dallas at KTVT Channel 11. A highly accomplished athlete, she won the San Francisco Co. Junior Tennis Tournament at age 14. She played semi-pro basketball under Babe Didrikson, had multiple runner-up finishes in golf club championships and continued playing until a major debilitating stroke two years ago at 94. Lisa also excelled as a snow skier and loved Big Thicket hunting. She authored a children’s book, “Dottie, The Polka dotted Butterfly.” A devout LDS member. Lisa was honored to be Sour Lake’s Old-Timer of the Year. She was the most marvelous mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend who was always the life of every party and while she was around, there was never a dull moment! In the game of life, she used all the clubs, played the entire course, played the back tees and most importantly, always played it down! Dorothy/Aunt Dot/Lisa/GrannyBird will be dearly missed!!!
Lisa is survived by her son, Clay Hawley of Prosper, TX; grandsons, Clayne Hawley of Olympia, WA and Kalen Hawley of San Marcos, TX; and son, Michael Hawley of Arlington, TX; nieces, Patricia Lloyd Giuliani of Seabrook, TX and Barbara Lloyd Attaway and her husband, Mickey; and nephew, John Brady Lloyd, all of Sour Lake, TX; and a host of other great-nieces and nephews; and last but not least her lil doggie, JJ!!Mrs. Hawley’s graveside service will be 3:30 p.m., Sunday, September 6, 2020, at Old Hardin Cemetery, Kountze, under the direction of Broussard’s, Silsbee.

My beautiful, beloved Aunt Dot, I will always miss you, and just as we have been seperated these last several months, it may be just a little while longer before we meet again, but I will always find you in my broken heart. I've told you before, and want to say again how important you were in my life. You were an incredible role model and my second mother. I am truly an orphan child now! How dearly you have been loved.
Quilts for Vets
January 30, 2019. We had the honor and the privilege of giving Ms. Dot A quilt in honor of her service to our country. It was probably one of the most emotional deliveries that we have done. She was so excited. And it thrilled our hearts. When we left we had a piece of history in our memories. Our deepest condolences. LinMarie

Mrs. Dot and Momma were roommates at SOHC until recently. They both passed away on August 31. Our prayers are with your family. Mrs. Dot had an infectious giggle. May the Lord surround you with peace and comfort.

My dear funny., wild, interesting, beautiful friend. My life hasn't been dull with you in it., that's for sure. You came back to Sour Lake to die, you said. Well., you did. Just a few miles to the northeast of here and quite a few years later than you thought you would. You got fooled, didn't you? I nor anyone else was ready for you to leave us and we are so glad you hung around longer for us to be able to enjoy some more renditions of your life tales and share some laughs about just about any subject. Our Friday lunches meant so much to me as I know they did to you. I know because you told me so. You made yourself well known in this town from the minute you walzed through the city limits with that infectious laugh and that mischievous smile. You were the true Mona "Lisa". Everyone knew Aunt Dot and were delighted to be in your company. From Fesco's to Goodfella's to Goodie's to El Jalapeno to Dairy Queen and even Sonic. We ate and laughed our way through this town and I will cherish every one of our memories together. Thank you for letting me be a part of your life. I hope I touch as many people's lives as you have and am remembered as fondly. I have a lot to live up to. Rest in peace, my dear friend. You finally made it.
