Douglas Lee Austin
Doug Austin, 87, of Winnie, died Friday, April 14, 2023. He was born on December 27, 1935, in Mont Belvieu, to Nezell Pinkston Austin and Oral LeRoy Austin.
Doug enjoyed fishing and wood working, volunteer Christian builders, and camping. He was a jack of all trades and loved to tinker. Doug enjoyed playing the guitar and many other instruments. Most of all he loved God and was a devoted Christian and loved his wife, children, and all of his family.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Austin; children, Angie Aucoin and her husband, Alan, of Kountze DeLaine Coffey of Winnie; Kirk Austin and his wife, Wanette, of Fannett; Hank Austin and his wife, Veronica, of Mayflower; and Marlo Hunt and her husband, Kevin, of Winnie; eleven grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren and one on the way; and brother-in-law, Jerry Devillier and his wife, Mary, of Winnie. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister Joan Hammond; son-in-law, Brian Coffey; grandson-in-law, Kyle Burnham; and a host of many other family members.
A gathering of Doug’s family and friends will be 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at Broussard’s, 134 West Buccaneer, Winnie. His funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at First Baptist Church, 120 West Pear Avenue, Winnie, with his interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery, Winnie.

I worked for Doug at Oyster Bayou, SUNOCO, during the early eighties. He was a good man to work for. I appreciated his patience and help. Blessings to his family and rest in peace “Big boss man”.

Doug will be sorely missed. We enjoyed our time spent with him and Ann on VCB jobs and at their home in Winnie. Loved playing music and just visiting. Look forward to visiting again in Heaven!

My sincere condolences ????
I will always remember Grumps for his warm tight hugs, infectious smile and peaceful demeanor. No matter what was going on around him I always felt peace. I really never understood how he was given the name of Grumps as he never showed signs of grumpiness around me.
I know he found his peace by playing his guitar while sitting in his music room, fishing, going for rides on his golf cart, his woodworking projects and tending to his plants. I always think of him when I see a bougainvillea plant, lol. That is one plant I couldn’t keep alive and I remember him telling me, “ you killed it.” 2 actually. I felt bad but he made me suffer in my guilt just long enough to say, “ I’m just playing with you” and gave me his big bear hug.
Ann, I am praying for you to allow yourself to pull that peace and understanding close to your heart. Your faith, family and friends will see you through your times of heartache.
