Douglas Roy Peters, 76, formerly of Benbrook, Texas, passed away February 12, 2025, at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas in Beaumont, Texas. He was born March 31, 1948, to Homer and Faye Manning Peters, in Dallas, Texas. Doug joined the US Army, in 1966, where he served two tours in Vietnam. In 1969, he came back home and joined the police academy. He would then begin working for Fort Worth Police Department in 1970, as patrol officer. He worked security during his time off. Doug then joined the Kennedale Police Department, and served as Captain, until his retirement.

Doug was a protector and a man who loved people. He never met a stranger, and he was always looking out for others. You would often find Doug at gun shows with his friends, nephew, or his brother, his favorite restaurants, on adventures with big brother Homer or meeting family for dinner when brother Mike came to town, or in his recliner watching Chuck Norris movies or just the weather. In the beginning of his retirement, you would find him in Lumberton, Texas, watching his grandsons, Kelby and Kade, on the football field and sharing every single police story, brevity code known to man, with Logan.

Doug is survived by his one and only daughter, Stephanie Stewart and her husband, R.D., of Port Bolivar, Texas; grandsons, Kelby Meyers and wife, Ashten, of Nederland; Kade Meyers and wife, Lauren, of Buna, Texas; Junior Stewart of Nacogdoches, Texas; Logan Meyers of Orange, Texas; great-grandson, Maverick Meyers; and great-granddaughter, Palmer Meyers; brothers, Homer Peters of Ruidoso, New Mexico; Michael Peters and wife, Linda, of New York; nephews, Keith Peters and wife, Megan, of Crowley, Texas; Pete Peters and wife, Elizabeth, of Cleburne, Texas; Mike Peters of North Richland Hills, Texas; cousins, Tony Spivey and Sissy Nodine; nieces, Kim Peters of Haltom City, Texas; Tammy Trundle and husband, Don, of Boyd, Texas; great-niece, Cathryn; great-nephews, Chris Peters, Connery Peters, Zachery Peters, Mark Waedemon, of Houston, Holli Ashton, of Houston, and Nadia Peters, of Cleburne, Michael Peters and Shawn Peters; mother of his daughter, Paulette Belaire Keck of Lumberton, Texas; lifelong friend, Ricky Sizemore  of Granbury; and many friends who loved him as well.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father; cousin, Elmer Lynn Spivey; aunt and uncle, Mildred and Elmer Spivey; and lifelong friend, Ted Scribner.

Lastly, a very special thank you to Keith Peters for the care and support that you provided daddy, while he was still in Fort Worth. Thank you for your support, Pete, uncle Homer and uncle Mike for all of your support as well.

Mr. Peters’ cremation arrangements were handled through Broussard’s Crematorium under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.

    Tony Spivey says:

God blessed some to be caregivers. He certainly blessed Doug. He was there for my family when my brother was killed in Vietnam. He was there for all of us serving two tours in Vietnam. He was there through out his career as a police officer, neighbor, Dad, brother, and friend. He will be missed by many. Not many people in my life could have traveled the path in life that Doug graciously took. 🙏♥️
