Dr. C.N. Reddy

June 1, 1947 - January 13, 2026

Dr. C.N. Reddy (Dr. Narasimha Reddy Chandamuri) passed away peacefully on January 13, 2026, at the age of 78. Born in Puttaparthi, Andhra Pradesh, Dr. Reddy’s journey from the humblest of beginnings in India to a distinguished career that spanned nearly half a century exemplified the power of determination and a commitment to service.

Dr. Reddy earned his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture with distinction from Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University in 1970 and a Master of Science from the Indian Agricultural Research Institute in New Delhi. In January 1974, he emigrated to the United States, earning his PhD in Soil and Environmental Chemistry from Louisiana State University in 1978. During his time at LSU, he studied under Dr. William Patrick, who became a mentor and lifelong friend. Alongside his beloved father, Babi Reddy, Dr. Patrick was one of the two people Dr. Reddy most deeply revered. In 1987, Dr. Reddy founded Chemtex Environmental Laboratories in Port Arthur, continuing his multi-decade legacy in the field of environmental science.

Those who knew Dr. Reddy remember a man who was selfless, compassionate, and generous. His tireless work ethic and relentless energy were matched only by his reliability and devotion to helping others. His impact went far beyond offering help; he changed the lives and livelihoods of thousands of families across generations. He gave equally and without judgment, regardless of background or circumstance, while living simply and never seeking material comforts for himself.

Dr. Reddy’s love of learning and teaching was ever-present — from building houses to training employees to becoming HVAC certified –– his insatiable curiosity, creativity, and hands-on brilliance defined him as much as his professional accomplishments did, giving him joy and purpose.

His sense of humor brightened every room; he delighted children with the candy he always remembered to keep handy in his pockets; and his love for surprise visits was among his most endearing traits — often driving ten hours at a time to see those he held dearest.

Dr. Reddy is survived by his wife, Dr. Nagaratna Reddy; his son and daughter-in-law, Drs. Babi and Jessica Chandamuri; his treasured granddaughters, Ana Chandamuri, who carries on his kindness and service-mindedness, and Emma Chandamuri, who embodies his tenacious spirit and individuality; his dear daughter, Swapna Chandamuri; his brothers and their families: Govinda, Gopal, Narasi, and Ramachandra Reddy Chandamuri; and past and present employees who helped build Chemtex into the respected business it is today.

He was preceded in death by his cherished parents, Shri Babi Reddy Chandamuri and Shrimati Adilakshmamma Chandamuri, whose sacrifices shaped the foundation of his life and continue to guide his enduring legacy.

A gathering for Dr. Reddy’s family and friends will begin at 9:00 a.m. with a funeral service to follow at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 24, 2026, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th street.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to an LSU scholarship fund established in Dr. Reddy’s honor at givelsu.org/drreddy and welcomes photos, memories, or wishes at cnreddymemorial@gmail.com.

Thanks Swapna for giving me this opportunity; I am grateful for the privilege of caring for your Dad.
I met a man of deep humility, with a generous spirit and quiet confidence.
In the midst of the early uncertainty about his diagnosis and work up, he somehow found space to take an interest in my life story.
I will never forget the simple, profound gestures of kindness he showed: offering me a part of his home made meals, during rounds, making sure I was seated and comfortable before we talked, always eager to create a moment of shared humanity and our conversations were often enlightening.
As his bio shows, he touched many lives including mine.
To Swapna and his loved ones, may his memory be a blessing – one that continues to inspire kindness, compassion and the courage to connect deeply with others.

Deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Dr.C.N.Reddy Sir, my formative mentor, in my early career at CHEMTEX.
Despite his success and wealth, he remained genuinely grounded, approachable, disciplined, and focused on substance over status.
The lessons he shared continue to influence how I work and make decisions today. Grateful for the foundation he helped build and the standards he quietly set.
Your guidance and presence will be deeply missed.
May his soul attain Moksha. Om Shanthi.
