Edna “Irene” Brown
Edna “Irene” Brown, 87, of Kountze, died Saturday, June 29, 2024. She was born on February 18, 1937, in Winnie, to Irene Boudreaux Honeycutt and Walter Thurman Honeycutt.
Edna Irene Brown was the oldest of 8 kids, she had 4 sisters and 3 brothers. She and her husband Daniel Williford “DW” Brown, Sr. had 3 sons together and between those 3 children she had 8 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren. She was lovingly known as Sister, Mama, and MawMaw. Growing up she spent most of her life as a mother, from helping raise her siblings to raising her own children. She just had a natural way with kids, and they were always drawn to her, even if she wasn’t their grandmother, they likely called her MawMaw.
She was a 1955 graduate of East Chambers High School where she was known as a basketball star and was a top scorer in every game. She helped lead her team to the state championship all 4 years of high school and they won twice. She loved playing basketball and later in life she found a love for shooting pool at various local pool halls. She also enjoyed spending time camping with her family at either the lake or the deer lease.
Another one of her greatest skills was her ability to cook up some of the best down home country cuisines you could imagine! No one ever went hungry while at her house. Her favorite color was purple and she enjoyed watching old westerns and listening to her CD collection of classic country gospel songs.
To know her was to love her and boy was she loved!
