Edward "Seis" Hartman Green, VI
It is with profound sadness and a devastating sense of loss that we announce the passing of our beloved son and brother, Edward Hartman Green, VI, a/k/a “Seis”. Seis died on Saturday, July 18th, 2020. He had crammed a lot of life, love and happiness into his twenty-seven years.
Seis was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Sharon Salyer Fulkerson and paternal grandfather, Edward Hartman Green, IV. He is survived by his parents, Hart and Leigh Green and brother, Everett Axel Green and sister, Erin Adelle “DB” Green. He is also survived by his maternal grandfather, Dr. Ken Salyer and his wife, Luci; maternal step-grandfather, Johnny Fulkerson; and paternal grandmother, Margaret Phelan Green; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Seis was born on April 29, 1993, in San Antonio, Texas, the son of Leigh Salyer Green and Edward Hartman Green, V. A few months after his birth, he was moved to Beaumont, his father’s hometown. Southeast Texas shaped and honed Seis into the man he was.
Seis’ formal education all took place in Southeast Texas. His favorite school was Trinity Mother’s Day Out. He went through St. Anne’s and Kelly High School before ultimately graduating from Texas Academy of Leadership and Humanities a/k/a TALH. He was thankful for the opportunity Dr. Mary Gagne provided him in allowing his last year of high school to be at TALH.
Seis’ educational accomplishments are not what we are most proud of, but we would be remiss without recognizing the success this young man achieved. His love of the outdoors, fishing, hunting, and a general quest for knowledge, formed him more than his family knew. He started at Texas A&M – Galveston in the business program, but quickly realized he could combine passions and transferred into the Maritime Administration Program. During this time, and in part, based on the advice of a counselor during his study abroad year in London attending the UK Galveston Maritime Management program in 2014, Seis decided to continue his education with a master’s degree.
In December of 2014, Seis graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Maritime Administration with a minor in Economics. Based on the counselor’s advice, he continued at TAMUG, graduating in December of 2017 with a Master’s Degree in Maritime Administration and Logistics. By May of 2018, he received his U.S.C.G. Third Mate Unlimited Tonnage license. His work experience at Clipper Group, Steel Services in 2014, and serving as a cadet for Patriot Contract Services in Diego Garcia, Indian Ocean in 2016, prepared him well for his time as a third mate in the Military Sealift Command with the U.S. Seventh Fleet Pacific in 2018 and 2019. There, he was responsible for safe navigation of his vessel during launches and for safety inspections of his ship’s cargo and operations in addition to logging every voyage, departure, arrival and being involved with ordinance and fuel loading/off-loading, underway replenishment, fuel transfers and other U.S. Military support operations. That’s the standard dry aspect of Seis’ life. Enough of that.
Our son and brother, Seis, was a special man with an inquisitive mind and an unbridled love of his family. He was a hard worker with his first job in the summer between his 8th grade and freshman year. He worked as a “mechanic” at Billy’s Car Care, doing every dirty job that Steve and Billy Bush asked him to do, including cleaning out the “roach lady’s” car. Even at this young age, Seis earned his pay. He was never late for work and never left early.
In another example of Seis’ personality, at the ripe old age of thirteen, he worked as a “construction crew assistant” with job duties that – in his words, per his resume:
“…included in assisting in the construction and demolition of building at various sites as well as having an understanding of all the tools and materials used.”
Seis was nothing, if not thorough. Pretty heady stuff for a barely thirteen-year-old.
Seis loved the water and became a swim instructor / life-guard in 2010 and 2011. He taught both children and adults at the Wilton P. Hebert Health and Wellness Center. He was specifically in high demand as an instructor for children and adults. His kindness and gentle ways were evident even in this age and job. On more than one occasion, Seis had a mother approach him, tears in her eyes, telling him that her child, that she had just watched successfully swim and smile in the water, had failed prior classes, balled at the idea of going to the pool and hated the water. The mother was so thankful that Seis had changed that child’s life and helped her child overcome a fear. He provided life skills and this trait continued through time.
Seis was not just a mind. During this time, he also modeled professionally for several nationwide businesses.
Seis was inquisitive. When a problem presented itself, or he became interested in some endeavor, he could get lost in the research. His passions were many and his research could include tying a fishing knot, sighting a shot-gun, smoking a brisket, taking a picture. Hundreds, if not thousands, of hours were spent in perfecting his various crafts and loves. He will always be remembered for his trademark “Woooah, what was that?” when presented with a new sight, issue or idea, be it a bird, a fish, a problem. We knew then that Google, YouTube and the internet would be his friend/teacher/mistress for the next hours, days or even weeks. He recently enrolled in the MasterClass programs online.
It is unfair to try to say in words the special person that Seis was. His loves were many. He loved his family, he loved learning, he loved the outdoors – including fishing and hunting, he loved photography, he loved the art of grilling/smoking meats and foods, he loved the ocean, he loved the gift of “the marsh” where he had duck hunted and bass fished for his entire life. The sum of all of these experiences made Seis a man of great wisdom, a man of great love and a gift to all those that knew him. He was just a great man and a very gentle soul.
The world is a lessor place, a worse place, without Edward Hartman Green VI. The Seis.
Broussard’s Mortuary has been trusted with the arrangements for celebrating the life of Seis Green. The celebration of Seis’ life will begin at 5:00 p.m. with an open mic to share your memories of Seis, a gathering of his family and friends will continue at 5:45 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Saturday, July 25, 2020 at 434 Fannin St., Beaumont, Texas.
This is to truly be a celebration of Seis Green. Jeans, boots and fishing shirts are appropriate. Refreshments and barbeque will be provided by his cooking mentor, Toney Tone, of Beaumont, Texas. A celebratory toast will be made at 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions in Seis’ name may be made to the Coastal Conservation Association of Texas, 6919 Port West Dr., Suite 100, Houston, Texas 77024.
It is as if, at age seven, Seis read Mark Twain: “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So, throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” That was Seis’ life.

I sailed with Hart on my freshman training cruise at Texas A&M. He was always a friendly face at school. During our time off the coast of Hawaii, he took the time to teach me about my, newly purchased, dslr camera (which I didn’t know a whole lot about at the time). He taught me all of the basic functions and even showed me some of the tools he uses to edit his photos. I appreciated that he treated me like anyone else instead of brushing off the freshman as many seniors did. He will be missed by many!

Hartman was my first best friend; so many memories at Trinity, going to the SETX State fair, the pumpkin patch, birthday parties, eating Rice Krispies at the Wellness Center pool.. I sailed with "Seis" on USNS AMELIA EARHART from December 2018 to May 2019. We spent a good deal of time underway and more than few nights on liberty together. I have a picture of me, Seis and Mason out at my favorite whisky bar in Sasebo Japan. It's how I want to remember him. He was my friend and I'll miss him. When I finally make it home, I'll pour a glass of my finest bourbon and toast his name, his laugh, to greenheads circling, and largemouth spawning.

Tall lanky an gentle smile and a easy laugh. Hart offered a firm but not overbearing hand shake with a delightful greeting. With a sparkle in his eye which really made me feel special. He would ask sayIng Hi Uncle Harry and with smile and ask how I was doing. Hart’s sense of humor resembled his Grandfather Ed dry yet succinct observations that always made me laugh. Hart truly filled his life with adventure and the always unfinished chess game at the Phelan Family party each year at the Fort Christmas party that he played with his cousin Dennis. Paw Paw Phelan and MaMere Phelan along with Hart’s grandfather Ed are hugging him and exhaling his arrival. Paw Paw would say to me that those that leave this life go to a better place and he would add that he was a little jealous they had beaten him there. Anyone who knew Hartman knows just how huge of a loss this is. I send every bit of my love to his family. Hartman and I went to St. Anne together and were always friends. He is very missed. We always enjoyed when he pulled up a chair for Sunday evening poker games and bratwurst.
