Effie “Jean” Derbonne Douglas

Effie “Jean” Derbonne Douglas, 86, of Sour Lake, passed away on August 14, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones.  She was born on Ocober 27, 1937, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Isa Mae Gallien Derbonne and Paul H. Derbonne.

She was a native of Natchitoches, Louisiana, graduating from Natchitoches High School in 1955 and attended Northwestern State College in Natchitoches.  Jean moved to Beaumont, Texas in March 1961 and lived in the Beaumont and Sour Lake areas ever since.

Jean retired from Jefferson County, Beaumont in October 2004 and was a member of Pine Ridge Baptist Church. She volunteered with the American Cancer Society for several years, was a member of Sour Lake Woman’s Club for a period of time and enjoyed substitute teaching at Sour Lake Independent School District for approximately sixteen years.  Her favorite pastimes included playing the piano, spending time with family and baking her children’s favorite pies.

Survivors include her children, Ron Douglas and his wife, Regina, of Huntsville; Sandy Dickerson and her husband, Daniel; and Vicki Treadway and her husband, Pete, all of Silsbee; seven grandchildren, Josh Douglas and his wife, Carly, of Montgomery; Brandi Harvey and her husband, Travis, of Caddo Mills; Amanda Canal of Tyler; Tori Bosarge and her husband, Michael, of Irvine, California; Casey Wager of Buna; Danielle Lowe and her husband, Matthew, of Lumberton; and Bret Treadway and his wife, Erika, of Beaumont; and eight great-grandchildren.

Jean is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Paul H. Derbonne, Jr.

A gathering of Jean’s family and friends will begin at 1:00 p.m., with her funeral service at 2:00 p.m., Saturday August 17, 2024, at Pine Ridge Baptist Church, 13430 TX-421, Kountze, under the direction of Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee.  Her interment to follow at Rosedale Cemetery, Sour Lake.
