Elsia "Jodie" Attaway

August 8, 1928 - January 5, 2021

Elsia Jo Elkins Attaway (Jodie) died January 5, 2021. Born on August 7, 1928 to her parents Mary and Joe Elkins, she was a lifelong resident of Sour Lake, Texas.

Jodie grew up in Sour Lake with her sisters Sadie and Bevil and brother Casey. These siblings grew up together and cared for one another with deep commitment during their aged years. She graduated from Sour Lake High School in 1945 where she played on the girls’ basketball team. On January 9, 1946 Jodie married her beloved husband Eugene Attaway and they continued to settle deep roots in Sour Lake where they raised their three children surrounded by their extensive family.

Jodie worked tirelessly to care for her family and neighbors. Her families hold closely memories of roadside picnics, trips to Honey Island, sandy beach trips, and the warm and welcoming feeling of her kitchen. She was always ready to feed her grandkids their favorite desserts and make them feel deeply cared for.

Jodie and Eugene loved camping in their pink pop-up camper, sharing their love with Buster the chihuahua, hosting big family holiday gatherings, and actively serving at First Christian Church of Sour Lake. In true Attaway fashion, their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren have fallen in love with travel, the outdoors, and Colorado…a love that exists because of the seeds planted by Jodie and Eugene on family trips over the decades.

Jodie is certainly rejoicing in eternal glory with her most merciful Redeemer alongside her true love Eugene, her parents, siblings, and the many friends and family members who have preceded her in death. Left to celebrate her life and continue her legacy are sons Mike Attaway and wife Cheryl, Joe Attaway and wife Vangie, daughter Mary Frances Pricer and husband Rob, 10 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews across generations.

The family is grateful for the loving care Jodie received over the past at Pine Arbor. They extend their sincerest thanks to staff and management.

A graveside service for Ms. Attaway will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 9, 2021, at Rosedale Cemetery, 505 Old Beaumont Rd, Sour Lake, under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin, Beaumont. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church of Sour Lake, 175 Mitchell St, Sour Lake, Texas 77659.

“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.” -John 5:24
