Elsie Cureton

Elsie Cureton, 83, of San Antonio, formerly of Nederland, died Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at Northeast Methodist Hospital, Live Oak, Texas. She was born July 5, 1939, in Galveston, to Carrie Adella Beard and James Arthur Bellar, Sr.

Elsie was originally from Gilcrest, Texas where she was able to enjoy her love of spending time on the water. She loved being on the beach or at the lake and enjoyed seafood. Elsie was passionate about going to church.

Survivors include her sons, Robert Cureton and wife, Kim, of Nederland and Michael Cureton and wife, Nicole, of San Antonio; grandchildren, Colin and Corey; brother, Chester Matthews and wife, Treva, of Dunnellon, Florida; nieces, Elizabeth and Christie; and nephew, David.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, James “Pete” Bellar; sister-in-law, Shirley Bellar; and stepfather, Guy Matthews.

A gathering of Ms. Cureton’s family and friends will 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 30, at Broussard’s, 134 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie. Her graveside service will follow at Fairview Cemetery, 213 Fairview Cemetery Drive, Winnie.
