Estella "Stella" Hancock

July 15, 1946 - May 4, 2020

Estella “Stella” Hancock, 73, of Nederland, passed away Monday, May 4, 2020, peacefully at her home. She was born July 15, 1946, in Navasota, to Ann Abke-Bussa and John Thomas Hancock.

Stella was baptized on July 24, 1946 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Navasota and was later confirmed at the same church on April 10, 1960. She married Billy Joe Hancock, Sr. on August 11, 1964 and they were married for forty-nine and a half years before his death. Stella’s passions in life included gardening and cooking. She was devout in her faith and loved her church, St. John Lutheran Church, Beaumont, where she proudly served in the Stephen Ministries. Sunday was her favorite day of the week. She would go to church and then have the whole family over afterwards for lunch and a game of pits. Of all of her life’s accomplishments, she was most proud of her family.

Survivors include her children, Renee Hodge; Billy Hancock, Jr., both of Nederland; and Dawn Sprinkle and husband, Ronny, of Fannett; grandchildren, Morgan Curry and husband, Doug; Ethan Hancock; Kenzie Hancock, all of Nederland; and Carsen Sprinkle, of Fannett; sister, Linda Torres; and nephews, Jessie Torres III; Fernando Torres; and Jessie Torres IV.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ann Abke-Bussa and John Hancock; husband, Billy Joe Hancock, Sr.; and sister, Elizabeth “Putt” Contreras.

A gathering of Mrs. Hancock’s family and friends will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 8, 2020, with her funeral service at 1:00 p.m., at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. Her interment will follow at Memory Garden of Jefferson County, Nederland. Please observe social distancing guidelines.
