Eugene Aaron Harrison

November 10, 1943 - January 20, 2026

Eugene Aaron Harrison, 82, of Port Arthur, Texas passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.

He was born November 10, 1943, to the union of Robert Harrison Jr. and Ida Mae Ruffin Harrison. He loved the Lord and was a lifelong member of Carter Chapel CME Church.

Eugene graduated valedictorian of the Port Arthur Lincoln High School Class of 1961. He attended Dillard University, New Orleans, LA where he graduated cum laude with bachelors degrees in biology and math. While at Dillard, he was initiated in the Alpha Phi Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and remained an active member for over 62 years. He was a successful and brilliant man. He worked at Dupont Sabine River Works for over 26 years where he was a trailblazer when hired as the first Black Laboratory Technician and first Black Computer Analyst. He retired as a Dupont Systems Analyst in 1992.

After retirement from Dupont, Eugene pursued his greatest passions teaching, golfing and spending time with his grandkids. He taught biology and coached golf at Lincoln High School for 12 years and managed Belle Oaks Golf Course for 2 years. In 2007, Eugene followed his children and grandchildren to the Dallas Fort Worth area where he worked as a tax preparer and office manager at H&R Block. Eugene did not believe in retirement or sitting around. When he passed, he was the proud owner of Gene’s Mobile Notary Services.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Ida Mae; four children, Gynetreia Mulberry, Eugene Harrison, Jr., Genene Harrison, and Emma LaDonna Harrison; three siblings, Lillie Collins, Jeritza Harrison and Robert Harrison III.

Eugene is survived by his children Raquel Harrison Hardy (Kelvin); Karen Taylor (Michael), Petoria Bell, Tenoah Williams (LaQueenia); sisters Roberta Dale (William), LaDonna Anderson (Rev. D. Jesse) and Brandy Fisher; grandchildren Michael Mulberry (Daylynn), Christopher Bell, Niah Fields, Raquel Ari Hardy, Sean Hardy, Anaiya Harrison and Isaac Colston; goddaughter Jessyka Anderson; and longtime companion Elvora Vital.  His life was immensely blessed by his nieces, nephews, bonus daughters, cousins, fraternity brothers and members of the Lincoln HS Class of 1961.

A memorial service celebrating Eugene’s life will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 12:00pm at Carter Chapel CME Church, 814 Reverend Raymond Scott Avenue, Port Arthur. Cremation arrangements were handled through Broussard Mortuary, under the direction of Broussard’s, 5050 North 12th Street, Nederland. His cremated body will be placed in a niche at Live Oak Memorial Park, Beaumont, Texas.
