Dorothy Faye Hamilton

Dorothy Faye “Dotsie” Hughes Hamilton, 77, passed away at her home on Sunday, August 15, 2021.  She was born to William E. “Bill” Hughes & Alice Wilborn Hughes on November 30, 1943 in Beaumont, Texas.

Dotsie graduated from Anahuac High School in 1962 and pursued an education in interior design. She owned many businesses throughout her lifetime including a dress shop, retail Christmas store, an import business & potpourri company, bed & breakfast and Skip’s Outrageous Bar & Grill.  She also enjoyed buying & then selling her jewelry. She was a lady of many talents and could do anything she put her mind to.  Some of her hobbies “aka therapy” included drawing 100’s of house plans for a pack smokes & a 12 pack of cokes; she was an awesome seamstress & made quite a few t-shirt blankets and costumes; and was a great baker.  Later in life she started building dollhouses for her grandkids and friends kids and grandkids.

Dotsie also enjoyed being involved in her community.  She took pride in fundraising and donating her time to activities she found important and enjoyed.  One of these was Safari Run in which she baked 123 cheesecakes.  Dorothy also donated the ark for the children at First Baptist Church of Stowell & helped remodel the First Baptist Church of Anahuac’s kitchen.  During Christmas she loved to be able to provide gifts to children that may not receive presents. Underneath her tough exterior she had a very giving heart.

Dotise enjoyed politics.  She involved herself with Chambers County elections supporting & campaigning for whom she felt was right for the position.  She was very opinionated about her stances and was not afraid to voice her opinion.  She stood up for what was right, did not back down and had proof to back herself up.  If your name wasn’t marked off the voted list and she knew you, you can bet she was going to give you a call & tell you to go vote!

She held a board member position at Trinity Bay Conservation District for 18 years total.  Her 1^st round in the 90’s was for 6 years and more recently she was on the board for 12 years.  During her appointment she helped not only her constituents but helped the employees of TBCD with many different issues.

When it came to family, Dotsie, always had an open door and was there to listen and give advice whether you wanted it or not.  She was always there for her children to steer them in the right direction and fight for what was best for them.  Being opinionated and truthful was one of her best qualities.  She loved to spoil her grandkids.  Dotsie spent quality time with each of them teaching them how to play card and board games.  She even taught them how to beat her, which she didn’t enjoy one bit, but gave them a proud smile anyway.

Dotsie was always down for a good gossip session or game day. She spent years playing card games with friends.  She was a topnotch entertainer who hosted many dinner parties and events. She traveled to the east & west coasts, China and many other places sight seeing and made these trips based around restaurants she wanted to try.  You were lucky to be held as a dear friend, as she was loyal, fun to be around and there was never a dull moment.

She lived for Christmas time and did it BIG!  She loved to decorate her yard with lights, had the most beautiful Christmas trees, wrapped EVERY present in the most beautiful paper complete with a hand made bow and her Christmas village was just astonishing.  Dotsie found ways for the family to spend hours together by making them work for their gifts. From treasure hunts, to puzzles with messages on the back, 40 presents individually wrapped inside each other or 1000’s of 1-dollar bills taped together or crumpled up to sort out.  Didn’t matter which way she planned things it was going to be an all day affair full of laughs and quality time.

Survivors include, daughters, Gina Faye Hamilton; Meredith Hamilton and Ryan Broussard, son, Skipper Hamilton and wife, Amy, all of Stowell; grandchildren, Abby Howarton and fiancé, Ethan McAlpin, of Winnie; Journey and Bo Hamilton, of Stowell; and great grandson, Nathan McAlpin of Winnie.  She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Hayward Monroe “Bo” Hamilton.
