George W. Bryant III

September 18, 1936 - December 18, 2022

George Wayne Bryant III (a.k.a. “G-O and Paw Paw”), age 86, was called home by his Lord and Savior on December 18, 2022. He was born on September 18, 1936, in Port Neches, Texas. He graduated from French High School in 1956 and directly enlisted in the US Armed Forces where he served his country for more than 35 years as an active and reserve soldier, toured in Korea and retired at the rank of Master Sergeant.

George’s delights in life were family, church, community, finance and all things sport related. He was proudly married to Kaye for more than 63 years and relished in fatherhood supporting his children in all of their endeavors ranging from ballet to BMX. He supported his family as a first-class machinist for Neches Butane, which later became Texaco Chemical, and retired after 36 years of service. George called Wesley Methodist his church home for more than 5 decades where he was actively involved with the Methodist Men’s Group, earning lifetime membership in 2015.  He served on the Neches Federal Credit Union Board of Directors for 30 years, he was a Master Mason in the Tolerance 1165 Lodge for 57 years, he was a collegiate UIL track & field official and he served as a football referee for the Texas Association of Sports Officials for more than 47 years, earning him lifetime membership in 2013. In 1996, he was honored as a community hero and ran with the Olympic Torch during the Atlanta Games. George was a very accomplished and loyal man who ALWAYS put others before himself.

He was a living example of the bible verse, Philippians 2:3- “Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.”

He was the cherished son of George Wayne Bryant, Jr. and Mayme Hamilton Bryant Dodd. Beloved husband of Kaye Ener Bryant; and their two children, Cyndi Hicks and Barry Bryant; his adoring daughter-in-law, Kimberlee Shiflet Bryant; and late son-in-law, Randall Hicks; through which George was blessed with 7 grandchildren, Sarah, Koby, Luke, Katie, Daniel, David and Kyler; and 4 great-grandchildren, Keeley, Jude, Leah and Grayson. He was a much-loved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin, friend and co-worker of many.

A gathering of Mr. Bryant’s family and friends will be from 5:30 p.m., until 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at Wesley United Methodist Church. My thoughts and prayers are with you Kaye and family. You know the wonderful man you married over 63 years ago as a loving, giving and caring person for his family and for all of us who knew George. George and I became dear friends in our senior year of high school (he attended French High and I went to Beaumont High). George was the brother I never had and I so enjoyed the visits he and Kaye made to my home in Austin.
Rest in Peace George. You’ll be missed by us all.

How will I remember George (and Kaye since they were always together) Energetic Active Engaged Very physically fit and always entertaining George would never be ready for a rocking chair because he would rather be running up and down a football field dressed with black and white stripes He and Kaye could also be found looking for bargains at garage sales just for the fun of it and another chance at socializing and sharing his wit Good memories Good people!

George….my sister was so blessed to have you and Kaye as a father-in-law and mother-in-law. You treated her like a daughter from the beginning. And…you both treated my sister’s extended family as your own. Our extended families had many many laughs at holidays and birthdays. I know you are having a great time in your forever home. Tell Mom and I love her. You two don’t get into too much trouble, because she was a hoot too! The Bleuel family loves you and we will all meet up again one day. ❤️ Melanie, Joe and Michael

BIL George, OMGoodness! What great times we have shared for over 60+ years! It would take hours to elaborate all we have shared. In a way too short summation, George, what a gap there will be in our fam w/o you. You’ve passed all the tests – BIL, dad, husband, uncle PawPaw& Great PawPaw & friend! Heck, I couldn’t elaborate a lot of things because some are “violations” of internet sharing! Ha! Luv U, my dearest dearest BIL. Rock on up there in heaven w/all the rest of our fam & friends! God Bless! SIL Marty
