George Lloyd Pharis

George Lloyd Pharis, 74, of Beaumont, died Tuesday, December 6, 2022, at Harbor Hospice, Beaumont. He was born February 15, 1948, in DeQuincy, Louisiana, to Beatrice Lyons Pharis and Roy Pharis, Sr. George was a United States Army veteran.

George was most known for his pursuits in the archery community across the country. From his national rankings as a Matthews Senior Pro to the one-on-one tutorials in his backyard bow shop, George worked tirelessly to advance his own skills in archery and loved to help others do the same.  He also put those skills to use while hunting and fishing all over the United States.

This talent was also evident in how he approached his career.  Managing people and harnessing their skills and talents were particular points of pride for George. Whether he was managing Bonanza or running a tank job for Graver, his attention to details, ability to crunch the numbers, and overall efficiency meant he was one of the most sought-after project supervisors in the field.

Above all, however, George loved his family, especially in the outdoors – hunting, fishing, or sitting around tending the campfire.  He loved to tell the story of meeting and marrying his sweetheart, Connie, on the dance floor at a Louisiana dance hall.  Over the next ten years they grew their family and George found a place that the family could escape to and let the kids grow up in the woods.  At Camp, a cabin on a high bank of the Sabine River, George put his construction skills to use building a place that became the center of many wonderful summers, weekends, and holidays the family (including grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins) spent swimming, fishing, and swinging from the rope into the river.  He also loved loading the family and extended family into the trucks and cars to caravan to Colorado or New Mexico for the ski trips.  As time went by and his children had children of their own, George doted on all seven with the same intensity of love and affection that he had for all of his family.

George’s final days were spent with the family he loved and catching his last mess of Crappie.

He is survived by his wife, Connie Pharis; children, Sheila Pharis of Austin; Mike Pharis and his wife, Natasha, of San Antonio; Melanie Pharis and her husband, Luke Harvey, of Beaumont; grandchildren, Rene Gordy; Lily Gordy; Kale Pharis; LeighLu Pharis; Teagan Pharis; Abigail Carrell and her husband, Adam; Claire Harvey; brother, Roy Pharis, Jr. and his wife, Pat, of DeQuincy, Louisiana; sister-in-law, Virginia Pharis of Lake Charles, Louisiana.

George is preceded in death by his parents, Roy Pharis, Sr., Beatrice Lyons Bankin, and Bennie Bankin; and his brother, Johnny Pharis.

A gathering of Mr. Pharis’ family and friends will begin at 1:00 p.m., with his funeral service at 2:00 p.m., at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. His interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Orange.
