Georgia Mae Sullivan

November 7, 1928 - March 29, 2022

Georgia Mae Sullivan, 93, died Tuesday, March 29, 2022. She was born November 7, 1928, in Nederland, to Julia and Ira Phillips.

Her many aliases include “Mom”, “Aunt JoJo”, “Georgia Mae”, “Grans”, “Granny”, “GrannyLake”, and “Jo”.

She and her husband, Lake, were from Winnie and High Island. They married when Georgia was fifteen. They spent years in many small towns south of I-10, while Lake worked in the oil fields. In 1968, they moved to Baytown and then to Dayton.

As the grandkids were born, the grandchildren and their friends were her focus. She was caring, generous, and loving. She loved music, loved company, wanted everyone to drink tea, have a snack with her, and she never missed her weekly hair appointment, which the family always teased her about.

In her 90’s, she needed nursing care and stayed in a nursing facility in Groves near Kharylake and his wife, Adriann and her niece, Emelda Phillips. They checked on her regularly. Near the end of her life, we brought her home to High Island where God blessed us with my dear friend, Lily, coming from Panama to care for her. In her last days, Granny rose to heaven with Lily’s singing voice.

Survivors include her daughter, Rhonda Martin and husband, Kerry W. Martin; grandchildren, Kharylake Martin and Khalalake Lewis; and great-grandchildren, Garner Lewis and Laken Mae Lewis.

Mrs. Sullivan only had one child, but assisted in the lives of her nephews, Dalton Ray LaBorde, Ronald Gene LaBorde, Randy Earl Phillips; niece, Susie Stidham Fields and her son, Troy Fields; and finally, the apples of her eye, grandchildren, Kharylake Martin and Khalalake Martin.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lake Sullivan; siblings, Genevieve LaBorde, Ruby Stidham, H.M. Phillips, and Clasey Phillips.

A graveside service for Mrs. Sullivan will begin at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at Fairview Cemetery, under the direction of Broussard’s, 134 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie.
