Gloria “Coco” Chance

July 14, 1944 - May 30, 2022

Gloria “Coco” Louise Chance, 77, of Fred, died Monday, May 30, 2022.  She was born on July 14, 1944, in San Diego, California, to Mary Smith Morgan and Floyd Morgan.

Survivors include her husband, Freddie Chance, Sr.; children, Christie Smith, and Freddy Dale Chance, Jr. and his wife, Naomi, all of Silsbee; and Melissa Nicholson and her husband, Danny, of Mena, Arkansas; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; brother, James Morgan of Jasper; sister, Rita Lunquist and her husband, Richard, of Jasper; and numerous nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Mary Smith; son, Oliver Keen; and sister, Virginia Fawvor.

A gathering of Coco’s family and friends will be 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, June 2, 2022, at Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee.  Her funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 3, 2022, at North Hardin Baptist Church, 11574 FM 92, Silsbee.  Her interment will follow at Franks Branch Cemetery, Fred.

    Though we were far apart living across the country from each other, I have always known Coco was there for me. She did not judge. She didn’t often call because… life. But when she did, or when I called her, she was always completely THERE. My heart is shattered. I know Mama met her at the gate, and there was a party in Heaven, and Aunt Coco is now sitting at the feet of Jesus.
