Gloria Ann Morris

Gloria Ann Morris, 88, of Nederland, died Friday, June 12, 2020, at The Medical Center of Southeast Texas, Port Arthur. She was born January 5, 1932, in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Gloria was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Nederland where she taught Sunday School and GA’s. She also was a member of the adult choir and played the handbells.

On May 29, 1953, she graduated from Northwestern State College in Natchitoches, Louisiana, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing, which was the first nursing class at Northwestern. She then went on to pass the Louisiana State Board of Nurse Examiners in August 1953 and passed with above average scores.

She married the love of her life on August 6, 1955 and was happily married for over sixty-two years. After they were married, they moved to Texas and adopted two children from The Edna Gladney Home. Once her kids were raised, she returned to work as a School Nurse for the Beaumont Independent School District. Gloria was also a member of Thymes for Herb Society and was a certified master gardener.

Survivors include her children, Karen Quinton and her husband, John, of Double Oak and David Morris and his wife, Angie, of Nederland; grandchildren, Faith Quinton; Joshua Quinton; Kaleb Dixon; Katie Morris; and Kohen Morris; sister, Georgia Stokes and her husband, Lynn, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; nephew, Bryan Stokes and his wife, Heather; niece, Ashley Stokes; and two great-nephews.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Edna Dees Schumaker; and husband, Robert Morris.

A gathering of Mrs. Morris’ family and friends will be 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Sunday, June 14, 2020, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. An additional gathering will be from 12:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m., Monday, June 15, 2020, at Broussard’s, with a procession to follow for her graveside service at 2:00 p.m. at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches.
