Gustavo Arturo Cuellar Carrillo, Jr.

December 15, 1968 - January 6, 2025

Gustavo Arturo Cuellar Carrillo, Jr. was born in Ciudad Acuna Coahuila, Mexico on December 15, 1968, and became one of God’s special angels on January 6, 2025.

He is survived by his mother, Maria Julia Cuellar; his sister, Llolisma Oseguera (Raul) from Michocan, Mexico, Rosie Sanchez (Pablo) from Winnie, Texas, Claudia Phelps (Christopher) from Texarkana, Arkansas, and Francisco Cuellar from Winnie, Texas; his nieces and nephews, Michael Oseguera (Soco), Gabriela Oseguera, Chris Sanchez, Brianna Sanchez, Nathan Cuellar, Landen Cuellar and Isabella Cuellar; his great nieces and nephews, Anthony Oseguera, Sophia Oseguera and Michael Oseguera Jr.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gustavo Cuellar Sr.

Gustavo, whom everyone knew as “Gus”, was a ray of sunshine. Gus was born with down syndrome, but that did not stop him from living life to the fullest. That also didn’t stop him from arguing with his siblings on occasions and wanting to do WWE moves on them. Gus always had a smile that would brighten up a room and had a heart of gold. He loved dancing cumbias, and his all-time favorite artist was tejano singer, Selena. Gus grew up in Mount Pleasant, Texas. He loved going to school and hanging out with his best friend Matt Barrett. While attending school, Gus participated in the Special Olympics every year. He graduated from High School in 1990. Gus attended Saint Michaels Catholic Church and assisted Father Haggerty as an altar boy for many years.

When Gus and his parents moved from Mount Pleasant, Texas to Del Rio, Texas, he became a member of Life Choices Unlimited where he met several new friends and was a client for many years. After losing his father to COVID, Gus and his mother moved to Winnie, Texas to be closer to his siblings.

The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the countless family members and friends that offered their love, support, time in caring for Gus. Its meaning goes beyond words. We also want to thank the kindness and care of the nurses/doctors of Baytown Methodist Hospital and Ascend Hospice Care. We would also like to thank Life Choices in Del Rio, Texas for allowing Gus to be a part of their family for many years.

A gathering of Gus’s family and friends will begin at 1:00 p.m., with his funeral service at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 10, 2025, at Broussard’s, 134 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie. His cremation arrangements will be handled through Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont.

Memorial contributions in Gus’s honor may be made to the Special Olympics, Attn: Memorial Giving, 1133 19th Street NW, 12th Floor, Washington, DC 20036-3604.

Sus sobrinos nietos Anthony Oseguera, Sophia Oseguera y Michael Oseguera Jr.

Fue precedido en la muerte por su padre Gustavo Cuéllar padre.

Gustavo, a quien todos conocían como “Gus”, era un rayo de sol. Gus nació con síndrome de Down, pero eso no le impidió vivir la vida al máximo. Eso tampoco le impidió discutir con sus hermanos en ocasiones y querer hacer movimientos de la luchador con ellos. Gus siempre tenía una sonrisa que iluminaba una habitación y tenía un corazón de oro. Le encantaba bailar cumbias, y su artista favorita de todos los tiempos era la cantante tejana Selena. Gus creció en Mount Pleasant, Texas. Le encantaba ir a la escuela y salir con su mejor amigo Matt Barrett. Mientras asistía a la escuela, Gus participaba en las Olimpiadas Especiales todos los años. Se graduó de la escuela secundaria en 1990. Gus asistió a la iglesia católica de Saint Michaels y asistió al padre Haggerty como monaguillo durante muchos años.
