Gustavus “Gus” Adolphus Northcott McFaddin

March 23, 1934 - April 28, 2025

Gustavus Adolphus Northcott McFaddin, known as “Gus”, passed away on Monday, April 28, 2025, at his home in Beaumont, surrounded by loved ones. Gus was born March 23, 1934, to Mary Amizetta Northcott and William Perry Herring McFaddin, Jr. in Beaumont, Texas.

Gus attended middle school here in Beaumont. He then went to Culver Academy. After graduation from Culver Academy, he enrolled in the University of Houston going on to University of Texas where he received a law degree. His law practice was dedicated to the family oil and gas and land.

Gus, along with his father and brother, Perry worked the ranches in Jefferson County, Benjamin Texas, and Arkansas. They would purchase underdeveloped land and turn in into successful working ranch raising cattle on all of them.

Gus has always been an outdoorsman and traveled the world over to participate in hunting, fishing, and competitive shot gunning. He had become a champion marksman. He spent a lot of time and donations to conserve the various fishing and hunting organizations. He donated property to Ducks Unlimited who, with the funds, built and improved duck breeding areas in Canada in remembrance of his brother, Perry. (W.P.H. McFaddin III)

Both Jean and Gus had been shot gunning at the One and One Hundred Gun Club. That is where it all happened, and their life together began. They traveled far and near and participated in shooting events as husband and wife throughout their married life. They also enjoyed spending summers at their Canadian home with family and friends. Lots of fishing and memories made there.

A few years after Gus and Jean married, they began breeding the Egyptian Arabian Horse at Plum Nearly Ranch. Jean always said Gus was the brains of the operations and she was the manual labor. It was a work of love, and they produced many beautiful champion Arabian horses.

Gus will be remembered by his warm smile, his generosity and love of family and friends.

Gus is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Jean Williams McFaddin; daughters, Melaine McFaddin and Michelle McFaddin; stepdaughter, Debbie Vance and her husband, Lloyd; grandchildren, Holland Thornton; Cassidy Thornton; Paul Gautreaux and his wife, Rhonda; F. A. N. McFaddin II and his wife, Tyneil; and Jesse W. McFaddin and his wife, Kristin; great-grandchildren, Chelsee Salim, Lindsee Meaux, Carson Gautreaux, James McFaddin, and Jack McFaddin. And those that gave him so much joy. His great-great-grandchildren, Emma, Stella, Piper, Maverick, Stetson, Rocker, and Knox. He felt so blessed to have five generations.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Culver Academies, 1300 Academy Road, Culver, Indiana 46511 or Ducks Unlimited, One Waterfowl Way, Memphis, Tennessee 38120.

Cremation arrangements for Mr. McFaddin were handled through Broussard’s Crematorium, under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont.

My horse has enjoyed life at the Plum Nearly Ranch for several years. When originally meeting Mr Gus and Ms Jean, I realized they are the friendliest, most hospitable couple who love horses and the people to whom they belong. His kindness will continue to resonate throughout the ranch as Ms Jean continues the legacy they began so many years ago.

Thanks Mr Gus for the time we spent together on our trips. Driving you guys to Canada over the many years and times fishing was an experience that I will never forget. The fun we had a C+ could never be more rewarding than anything I know. I also enjoyed the history of your family that you shared with me as we traveled the country side. I’m sure I will continue to “Loop to Loop” as I travel in the future. Something he would tell Mrs Jean and I as we would get turned around on our routes. Rest in Peace Mr Gus.
