Gwendolyn Fowler Gomez

September 27, 1955 - March 27, 2026

Gwendolyn Rita Gomez, the fiercely loving heart of her family, was called to Heaven on March 27, 2026. She leaves behind a legacy defined by her warmth, her devotion to her loved ones, and a wonderfully colorful personality.

Born on September 27, 1955, in Port Arthur, Texas, Gwen graduated from Nederland High School in 1975. That same year marked the beginning of her greatest chapter: marrying the love of her life, Gerzain Gomez, in February of 1975. Together, they shared fifty-one beautiful years of partnership, building a family and a lifetime of cherished memories.

Gwen spent twenty-six years of her career serving as a paraprofessional with the Nederland Independent School District (NISD). She made a lasting difference in the lives of many children, families, and co-workers, bringing her genuine kindness and fun-loving spirit to the schools she served.

Above all else, Gwen’s greatest joy in life was her family. Raising her three boys—Ashley, Torrey, and Whitney—meant a home filled with laughter, pranks, and memorable moments. She handled the beautiful chaos of motherhood with grace, though she was known to keep a belt nearby just in case her boys’ antics needed a little reining in.

Gwen was known for her vibrant personality and, as her family can fondly attest, a famously strong will. She could be a little ornery at times, but that steadfast, fiery spirit was just part of what made her so deeply loved. She approached life on her own terms—almost always while wearing a pair of flip flops from her beloved and extensive collection.

Later in life, her favorite “hobby” became spoiling her grandchildren. She was a fixture at their extracurricular activities, always cheering them on and bursting with pride over their accomplishments.

She also treasured the time she spent with her friends, affectionately known as the “Bunco Beauties,” whose company always brought her joy. Gwen loved the simple pleasures in life, whether it was doting on her sweet Maltipoo, Lila Rose, or eagerly anticipating her next delivery as an avid Amazon Prime shopper.

Gwen is now reunited in peace with her father, Harrel T. Fowler; her mother, Janice Fowler; her brother, Harrell Fowler; her sister, Deborah Carrell; and her grandson, Whitney Chase Williams.

She will be profoundly missed by her surviving family: her devoted husband, Gerzain Gomez of Nederland, TX; her sons and daughters-in-law, Ashley and Melissa Gomez of Nederland, TX; Torrey and Natalie Gomez of Nederland, TX; and Whitney and April Gomez of Labelle, TX; her cherished grandchildren, Britton, Briley, Daphne, Chloe, Bentley, Mabrey, Paisley, and Brayden; and many extended family members and dear friends.

Gwen will be remembered for her unwavering love of family, her sense of humor, her beautifully stubborn streak, and the incredible joy she brought into the lives of everyone who knew her.

A gathering of Mrs. Gomez’s family and friends will begin at 8:30 a.m., with her funeral service at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. Her interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches.

I am still in shock that Gwen passed. I am so very sorry. We met in 3rd grade at Highland Park the 1st year it opened. Lots of good memories along the way. One special memory was when Gwen hosted a “party,” a weekend night & in her garage, cold drinks, snacks, girls & boys too! We all had fun. Never forgot it bc we played spin the bottle in the driveway LOL. Graduated together & the last occasion I got to spend any time with her was at her bridal shower. I know she will be greatly missed by her large family, & I’m so sorry she passed so young. Sincere condolences & prayers! 🙏❤️ Cindy, Class of 1975

Gwen and her family lived down the street growing up. We attended 3rd grade at Highland Park the first year it opened. Went through high school together. Later Gwen was at Highland Park working with the kids when my foster son was there. She was at the soccer fields when our children were growing up as a coach, referee and also played on the adult team. She was a friend and is definitely going to be missed.

I will miss her. She was so much fun! Our hearts ache for you all. One of my favorite memories was when she was coaching daren in soccer at the highland fields and it was 32 degrees and she said ok someone has to sit out this time and the whole team ran to the bench! I still laugh about that. She brought so much laughter to everyone. I am so glad you have so many happy memories. We luv yall, Laurie, Lauren, and Daren Frasier
