Hazel G. Key
Hazel G. Key was born in Kountze, Texas on September 20, 1950. Where she met and fell in love with her husband, Ed Key. They were married on September 23, 1972 and were married for twenty-nine years until his death on August 27, 2002.
Hazel enjoyed many things in life, nothing more than enjoying spending time with her family and friends. Hazel kept a bowl of candy by the door or by her chair in case one of the neighborhood kids would want to stop by for a piece of candy or if someone stopped by, she would have something for them to snack on. Hazel was always cooking and feeding any and everyone that would come to her door. Even if you weren’t hungry, she would at least send you with a plate of food. Among her favorite things to do was to play cards. It was always a friendly fight or argument that she was cheating. To this day I do not know of anyone who has beaten her in a game of cards. Mom would go out of her way to make sure everyone she cared for was happy and healthy and would call and check on everyone every day. Mom showed her love in many ways and has touched many people in her own unique way. She was truly an angel that was among us and we were all touched by her love, kindness, and generosity in some way. She will be dearly missed and cherished by many.
She is survived by her children, Roxane Roby and Cody Key; grandson, Emilio Valdez, Jr.; sister, Mary-Jane Wells and her husband, Billy; and brother, Charles Builderback; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Mildred Builderback; father, William Builderback; daughter, Jenny Key; sisters, Judy Overstreet and Maudine Builderback; and son-in-law, Eddy Roby.
A gathering of Mrs. Key’s family and friends will be 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Broussard’s, 530 West Monroe, Kountze. Her funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 18, 2024, at Broussard’s, with her interment to follow at Votaw Cemetery.
