Helen Bass

Helen Bass, 87, of Nederland, died Saturday, January 1, 2022. She was born April 14, 1934, in Port Arthur, to Helen and Volney Ross.

Helen was known to be a social butterfly and loved to be the life of the party.  “Fun” was her middle name.  She made it her life’s goal to make the grandkids’ trips to her house an adventure where the word “no” was never in her vocabulary.  She and James, her husband of over sixty-years, had a steady stream of family and friends who would stop by on a moment’s notice to visit and drink coffee. Through the years she worked as a secretary, switchboard operator, and a customer service rep, but her favorite career was being a seamstress.  She sewed for all the neighborhood children as well as the grandkids.

Survivors include her sons, Jim and wife, Sheila, of Nederland; Raymond and wife, Carol, of Nederland; and Ross and wife, Wendy, of Nederland; seven grandchildren; eleven great- grandchildren; and brother, Maurice Ross.

Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Volney Ross; husband, James Bass; daughter, Georgie Volz; and seven brothers.

A gathering of Ms. Bass’s family and friends will be from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland, her funeral will follow at 2:00 p.m., with her interment to follow at Oak Bluff, Port Neches.
