Helen Gay Stevens

November 22, 1958 - November 16, 2024

Helen Gay Stevens, 65, of Groves, passed away Saturday, November 16, 2024. She was born November 22, 1958, in Port Arthur, to Helen Edris McBride and James Norbert Pellerin.

Gay was a passionate crafter whose creative spirit brought joy to many. She was known as the studio seamstress for dance recital costumes and was known for her exquisite handmade craft items, which were cherished and sold throughout Texas at weekend craft shows during the 1980s and 1990s. She was an advocate for CPS Rainbow Room, Foster Care Prom and Foster Care Christmas. She was co-owner of Simply Elegant Catering and Events, where she turned brides’ dreams into reality week after week. She attended and completed her Associate’s degree from Lamar University Port Arthur. She went on to retire from the State of Texas with CPS.

Her nurturing spirit will be profoundly missed by her family and extended loved ones. Gay had a remarkable way of showing her care – whether through a thoughtful note, a surprise meal, or simply being there for others, she embodied the essence of a servant’s heart. The love she had for her four grandsons was truly special. She delighted in showering them with treats and spending quality time with them, whether it was building blocks or teaching them to play Candyland. Her happiest moments were undoubtedly spent in their company, creating lasting memories that they will carry forward. Gay’s legacy of love and creativity will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.

My brother brought the sweetest young woman into our family back in the 1970s! Gay was kind, generous and loving. She was down to earth, a great cook and so very creative. Worked with Gay for many years at Human Services (food stamp division) before she transferred to CPS. She was so much fun to be around and she made the best oatmeal raisin cookies which she brought as treats to her co-workers. May you Rest In Peace, Gay, you deserve the heavenly reward for your many years of services to under-privileged of the community.
