Firstly, my condolences to you Mrs. Muckleroy and to the family. Mr Muckleroy’s legacy will last a long time through many people. He was stern, honest, and a man of character. The last conversation I had with him was a testament to his way of life. I’m not sure if I laughed more at him or your reaction to him as we spent time at the lake. Mr Muckleroy took time with me when I was in 5th grade. I had an illness and missed weeks of school. When I returned multiplication and division were taught. Well, I darn sure didn't get it! Every day he taught me my multiplication and division. I finally got it! He and I remained friends from then on. I will miss him

Dear Mary Kay and Family, I was so sad when I heard of Herbert’s post-surgery condition and so very sad to hear of his death. Not only did I know you both in Cedar Bayou years following along behind he and Tommy in football and thinking of him as bigger than life in stature and leadership, but I later was privileged to visit with him many times in his Principal and Superintendent roles and observe how esteemed he was by the students and faculty and the whole town. You and he didn’t forget your roots and I have seen you lending suppport to so many families, including mine, in times of bereavement in Cedar Bayou. You, your children and all the “grands” have lost a Rock and the world is a better place for him having been here. Mr. Muckleroy was like a second father to me. I have so many fond memories of our camping trips together. He rescued a raccoon from the woods and we took it with us on a vacation to Arkansas. But the best memory was paddling Mr. Muckleroy around the lake in a big yellow blow up raft. I will miss seeing him and listening to his great stories. Mr. Muckleroy was such a great man, so strong and very sweet. Always took my side on things. He was a man of action, a great force in our community. For years he and his wife always showed up at my CASA events and then radKIDs helping to draw support for causes involving children. It was such a joy to be around them and have them both there. My memory of Mr. Herbert Muckleroy is that he was like a great black bear protecting and serving those he stood in charge of.

Coach Muckleroy was my football coach and PE teacher at Kountze High School in the 60's. I remember him as supportive, and competent in his work with us as a team. He always encouraged good sportsmanship and made us feel valued as team members. I will like to express my condolences to the Muckleroy family. My interactions with Mr. Muckleroy was always pleasant and encouraging. I will never forget you taking the time to prepare and present to me a book with what appeared to be every newspaper article written covering my high school career.
