Irene Menville

September 11, 1947 - May 29, 2025

As the sun set on Thursday, May 29, 2025, Alice Irene Read Menville, 77, of Lumberton passed peacefully from this life after a long illness.

Irene is the wife and love of Howard Menville, her husband of 58 years. She helped him through school to get his Criminal Justice degree and became a Secret Service wife. Irene had been a store manager, a business owner, and an absolute master with a sewing machine – even making prom formals for her daughter.

“Retirement” years were just as full with family, glamping in their motor home all over the country – even to Alaska and back. Irene really loved glamping! There was fun to be had at fine dining establishments and casinos too.

It’s right to say Irene Menville spent her life creating. But Irene’s greatest creation was the life of love and home she created for her family – no matter how busy or hard life got. Her girls were her number one priority, along with grandson, Gavin, and her pups, Cookie and Sugar.

Irene is preceded in death by her father, Travis Read; daughters, Angela and Andrea Menville; and grandson, Noah Marlow.

Surviving Irene is her mother, Lillian Read; husband of fifty-seven years, Howard Wayne Menville; daughters, Tiffany Menville and Shelly Marlow and her husband, Tim; grandson, Gavin Marlow; brother, Steven Read and wife, Maryanne; and sister, Reba (Read) Wallace and husband, Phillip.

The Menville and Marlow families wish to thank Compassion Hospice in Beaumont and Village Creek Rehabilitation and Nursing Care in Lumberton for their thoughtful and loving care of Irene.

An Angel from the Stars

“Beautiful with a charming smile

Never mean to the ones in need

Her voice so soothing like a god when she speaks

She can care so much for one another

When she looks at you it’s like she is saving you

She is yet an angel from the stars”

    Shelly Menville Marlow says:

I wanted to take a moment to thank all of you for loving my mother. She was perfect, she really was.

Her heart, her smile, her laugh, her wickedly quick wit, and quiet strength. I pray she understood just how amazing she was.

We weren’t ready to loose her. I miss her so much, I miss her voice, her smell, her hugs. I know how proud of us she was, and I pray I continue to honor her with my life and family in her absence.

Crushed doesn’t even begin to describe the pain in our hearts… we know every season has its turn… it just fails to bring comfort when it’s your turn.

Due to my daddy’s fragile health, from advanced dementia, and my dear sister’s inability to cope with stress, we felt it was best not to have them in attendance today. I will be bringing them your messages of love after visitation. Please understand it is what is best for them. I will be representing our family in their absence.

Again, I wanted to take a moment to thank all of you for your support and messages of love and remembrance. Our loss would be unbearable without all of you.

    Jean Menville Ferguson says:

My heart is saddened with the loss of my sister-in-law, Irene, because through the years we were more like sisters. Many a time through the years people would mistake us for each other. Though saddened, I am happy that she is with our Savior in Heaven and feeling no pain. I pray for Howard, Tiffany, Shelly and family that God will give them peace beyond understanding during this time of sorrow. Love you

    Larry and Cindy Marlow says:

She had stories that made you laugh. She made everyone feel like family and was warm and welcoming in every way. She has been a great loving mother in law to my son. You will be missed
