Irma Martinez De Chavez, 65, of Winnie, died Wednesday, January 11, 2023. She was born November 16, 1957, in Jalpilla, Mexico, to Juana and Lorenzo Martinez.

Survivors include her husband of forty-seven years, Rafael Chavez; children, Yanira Chavez and husband, Eduardo Hernandez; Israel Chavez and wife, Candelaria; Jose G. Chavez and wife, Araceli; Rafael Chavez, Jr. and wife, Rosa Isela; Yaneli Torres and husband, Ramiro; Daniel Chavez and wife, Martha; and Yasmin Collins and husband, Slade; grandchildren, Dioselin; Eduardo; Israel, Jr.; Diego; Dylan; Arianna; Giovanni; Christian; Lupita; Leo; Rafael Jesus; Bryan; Samantha; Jayleen; Reyes; Joan; Iker; Gael; Joshua; Julian; McKenzie; Jake; and Ava; great-granddaughter, Valeria Jimenez; sisters, Maria Santana; Raquel Aviles; Sofia Velazquez; Maria De La Luz Anaya; brothers, Lorenzo Martinez; Salud Martinez; Jaime Martinez; Oscar Martinez; and Javier Martinez.

Irma was a very loving person and welcomed everyone to her home as a member of her own family. Her love of cooking produced delicious food, as her specialty was traditional Mexican mole. Her joyful personality was very contagious as she loved music and dancing. She enjoyed singing with her sisters or anyone else that joined her. Her love for her husband, children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter was tremendous. She dedicated her life to her family and was a faithful member and volunteer of St. Louis Catholic Church as well as joining the faithful group of the Cursillistas. After her children started their families, she dedicated her free time to gardening plants. Irma was and will always be remembered as the person that who had a contagious love and will forever be appreciated for that.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Antonio Martinez and Enrique Martinez; son, Cesar Chavez; and father-in-law, Rafael Chavez.

A gathering of Mrs. Chavez’ family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m., Sunday, January 15, 2023, at the family’s home, 422 6th Street, Winnie. Her funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 16, 2023, at St. Louis Catholic Church, 315 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie, with her interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery, Winnie.

Irma era una persona muy cariñosa y recibía a todos en su casa como miembros de su propia familia. Su amor por la cocina produjo comida deliciosa, ya que su especialidad era el mole mexicano tradicional. Su personalidad alegre era muy contagiosa ya que amaba la música y el baile. Le gustaba cantar con sus hermanas o cualquier otra persona que se uniera a ella. Su amor por su esposo, hijos, nietos y bisnieta era tremendo. Dedicó su vida a su familia y fue miembro fiel y voluntaria de la Iglesia Católica de St. Louis, además de unirse al grupo fiel de los Cursillistas. Después de que sus hijos formaran sus familias, ella dedicó su tiempo libre a la jardinería. Irma fue y siempre será recordada como la persona que tenía un amor contagioso y siempre será apreciada por eso.

Le precedieron en la muerte sus padres; hermanos, Antonio Martínez y Enrique Martínez; hijo, César Chávez; y suegro, Rafael Chávez.

Una reunión de familiares y amigos de la Sra. Chávez comenzará a las 10:00 a. m. del domingo 15 de enero de 2023 en la casa de la familia, 422 6th Street, Winnie. Su funeral será a las 10:00 a. m., el lunes 16 de enero de 2023, en la Iglesia Católica de St. Louis, 315 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie, seguido de su entierro en el cementerio de Fairview, Winnie.
