Isabelle "Belle" Butler

June 29, 1935 - February 7, 2021

Isabelle “Belle” Butler, 85, of Lumberton, died Sunday, February 7, 2021, at Christus Southeast Texas-St. Elizabeth, Beaumont. She was born on June 29, 1935, in Basile, Louisiana, to Doline Vidrine and Thomas Godeaux.

Being raised in Basile, in the heart of Cajun Country, Belle developed a love of Cajun music and gumbo. After moving away, she treasured her visits to see her siblings and their families. She also enjoyed country music, but her all-time favorite was Elvis-making a visit to Graceland a priority.

Belle and Frank are the perfect example of true love throughout a lifetime. They were lovingly devoted to each other and would have celebrated their 67th Wedding Anniversary next month. Belle loved being a homemaker and stayed very busy raising three active boys. She was involved in PTA, home room mother, Cub Scout Den Mother and Little League as concession stand manager.

The boys participated in many sports, but baseball was her favorite. Since the boys had favorite rival baseball teams, she had to pick one of her own. Belle loved to follow the Cincinnati Reds during the “Big Red Machine” era, and even went to Cincinnati to watch a game.

She adored her grandkids and great grandkids to whom she is affectionately known as MomMom. Belle loved rocking them all as babies and watching them grow.

She loved chihuahuas and had several as pets throughout the years. Belle enjoyed her almost daily bowl of Blue Bell ice cream. Her favorite activity was going to the casinos. She seemed to always be the biggest winner out of anyone in the group.

Belle will always be remembered as being loving, fun, and beautiful. She will be greatly missed.

Belle is survived by her husband, Frank Butler, of Lumberton; children, Frank Butler, Jr., of Splendora; Robin Butler and his wife, Karen, of Beaumont, and Randy Butler and his wife, Barbara, of Lumberton; grandchildren, Angela Strahan and her husband, Joe, of Bevil Oaks; Eric Butler, of Austin; and Michelle Butler, of Dallas; and great-grandchildren, Patrick Strahan, Finn Strahan, and Luke Strahan.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Doline and Thomas Godeaux; siblings, Bill Godeaux, Della Miller, Eula Mae Walker, and Oscar Godeaux; and daughter-in-law, Diane Butler.

A gathering of Mrs. Butler’s family and friends will begin at 1:00 p.m., with her Rosary recited at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, February 10, 2021, at Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee.
