Ivo “Buddy” Phend, Jr.

October 31, 1932 - October 10, 2022

Ivo “Buddy” Phend, Jr., 89, died peacefully at his home, Monday, October 10, 2022. He was born on October 31, 1932, in Hamshire, to Beulah Rebecca Shank Phend and Ivo Irvin Phend, Sr. Mr. Phend proudly served his country in the United States Army.

Mr. Phend was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church in Hamshire and served as a Deacon. He volunteered with Cross Ministry creating crosses for the First United Methodist Church in Center. He volunteered with Campers on Mission doing carpentry and welding for many years. Buddy was a longtime rice farmer in the Hamshire community, and he enjoyed welding, and woodworking in his spare time. He worked as an electrical instrumentation technician at Dupont and retired after many years of service. Mr. Phend enjoyed square dancing, camping and traveling. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Patsy Phend, of Hamshire; children, Ivalynn Carter, and her husband, Rick, of Fannett, Kathryn Watlington, and her husband, Chris, of Center, David Phend, and his wife, Jackie, of Hamshire; grandchildren, Brian Carter, and his wife, Joy, Stephen Carter, and his wife, Laura, Lauren Schumaker, and her husband, Jeff, Andrew Phend, Keaton Watlington, Jack Callen Watlington; great-grandchildren, Lillian, Hazel, Lincoln, Addison and Virginia Carter.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings, Phyllis Peebles, Ethel Erickson, Russel, Robert, and Richard Phend.

A gathering of Mr. Phend’s family and friends will be 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, October 13, 2022, at First Baptist Church, 25304 TX-124, Hamshire, Texas. His funeral service will be Friday, October 14, 2022, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Hamshire. Interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery, Winnie.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made in Mr. Phend’s name to First Baptist Church, PO BOX 369, Hamshire, Texas 77622.
