January 27, 1944 - July 17, 2022

Jalmer Royce McConathy, 78, of Beaumont, died Sunday, July 17, 2022, at Christus Southeast Texas- St. Elizabeth, Beaumont. He was born on January 27, 1944, to Letha Anderson McConathy and Jalmer Tynes McConathy, in Port Arthur. Royce grew up in southeast Texas where he attended Thomas Jefferson High School then attended Lamar University where he received a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

After high school, Royce was introduced to the love of his live, Susan Sherwood. He married Susan in 1966, and they stayed happily married for the next 56 years. Royce and Susan had two sons, Jay and Craig McConathy, to which Royce passed on his love of nature, through time spent outside hiking, camping, hunting, fishing, and golfing.

Royce began his career as a mechanical engineer for Gulf Oil Company. Then moved to Chevron where he worked his way up to the position of Utilities Department Superintendent before retiring after 30 years of service. He then moved to Jamacia with his wife, Susan, where he worked for another five years as the Manager of Utilities for Kaiser’s Alpart refinery. After their time in Jamacia, Royce and Susan returned to Beaumont to spend time with their family.

Royce accomplished many great things during his life, but the traits that his family will remember most are his kindness to strangers, his strong work ethic coupled with excellent craftmanship, his steadfast resolve in doing what he believed was right, and his love for his family.

Royce is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Omera McConathy. He is survived by his wife Susan McConathy; children, Jared McConathy and his wife, Sally, of Tyler and Craig McConathy and his wife, Haliegh, of Lumberton; grandchildren, Jared T. McConathy, Connor McConathy, Charlotte McConathy, Samantha McConathy, and Averliegh McConathy; and great-grandchild, Gabriel McConathy.
