James David Salles, Jr.
James David Salles, Jr. passed away on August 6, 2022, in Athens. He was born on April 17, 1968, in Port Arthur, to James David “Big Jim” Salles and Evelyn Sue Humphrey Salles.
David graduated from Lufkin High School in 1986. He worked for MHMR in Lufkin for two years, The Movie House Video Store in Lufkin for two years, Gibson’s Discount in Beaumont for seven years, Sutherlands Lumber in Port Arthur for eleven years, and HEB in Beaumont for twelve years. He was a sports fanatic and loved watching the Houston Astros and all Texas Longhorn athletics. David was a member of Leagueville Baptist Church and West End Baptist Church, where he loved to volunteer as a greeter and usher. He enjoyed spending time farming with his family. His remarkable legacy as a son, brother, uncle, nephew, and friend, will live on in the lives of those he touched.
Survivors include parents, Big Jim and Sue Salles of the Blackjack Community (Athens); siblings, Laurie Ann Hayes and husband, David, of Silsbee; Jenny Sue Burris and husband, John, of Kingwood; John Timothy Salles and wife, Jana, of Garland; nieces and nephews, Hilary Foyil, Allie Hayes, Jenna Burris, Jackson Burris, Jesse Salles, James Salles, Jonah Salles, Jewel Salles, Janae Salles, Joana Salles, Judah Salles, Jaren Salles; great-niece, Annabelle Foyil; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Jessie and Maurice Salles; maternal grandparents, Manuel and Flossie Humphrey; two uncles, J.C. Lambdin and John C. Humphrey and cousin, Stephen Duhon.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Tina Cascone of MD Anderson, Hospice Plus nurse Kathy Austin and social worker Amanda Perez.
A gathering of Mr. Salles family and friends will begin at 1:00 p.m., with his funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 14, 2022, at West End Baptist Church, 8180 Phelan Boulevard, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. His graveside service will be at 4:00 p.m. at Knupple Cemetery, Silsbee.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to support missions at Leagueville Baptist Church, 12081 FM317, Murchison, Texas 75778; West End Baptist Church, 8180 Phelan Boulevard, Beaumont, Texas 77706; or missions at a local church of your choosing.

I remember David when we were growingup together! He was a happy, charming young man who was a blessing to his family. I always marveled at how the Salles family loved each other…such a wonderful example. I know David is well now, and you don’t have to worry about him…the Lord has him.
