James A. “Jimmy” Hardy
James A. “Jimmy” Hardy, 66, a resident of Fannett, Texas, for the past 6 years and former longtime resident of Bevil Oaks was received into the loving hands of our Lord on January 7, 2024, at his home with his wife beside him.
He was a long-time employee of Carter and Company of Beaumont, having retired in early 2023 after 44 years. Jimmy was known as an excellent carpenter, locksmith, and talented handy man, learning his skills while on the job. In the mid 90’s he was known as the bicycle guy, who would find old bicycles, refurbish them, and donate them to Boys Haven in Beaumont for the children there to enjoy. He loved making old things new again, with what he felt was his greatest accomplishment, the restoration of an antique horse buggy for The Laurels in Beaumont, not once but twice. Taking care of his wife, family and home was what filled his heart with pride, even during the rough years of three floods. Jimmy loved fishing, woodworking, and tinkering with broken machinery. He was an avid gardener, generally having a spring and fall garden, the fruits of which he shared with his friends, neighbors, and co-workers.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Julia Hardy of Fannett; three stepsons, whom he was so proud of, Brandon Schwartzenburg and his wife, Kerri; Nick Schwartzenburg and his wife, Jillian; and Dustin Schwartzenburg. He was also the proud Pawpaw to three granddaughters, Kate, Reese, and Kelsie; and two grandsons, Austin and Tucker. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Richardson of Seguin; brother, Mark Hardy of Beaumont; two nephews, Jay and Thomas Richardson; and one niece, Ashlyn Adams and her husband, Kevin.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Eleanor and his brother, Tommy.
His family would like to thank the dedicated employees of Gentiva Hospice for the excellent care he received, especially his aide, Tyra.
A gathering of Mr. Hardy’s family and friends will begin at 12:00 p.m., with his memorial service to follow at 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 12, 2024, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. His cremation arrangements were handled through Broussard’s Crematorium.
