James L. Breaux
James L. “Jimmy” Breaux, age 90, of Round Rock, passed away on January 30, 2025, following a brief illness.
Jimmy was born in Lafayette, Louisiana, on August 22, 1934, to Leonce and Noelie Breaux. He graduated from Lafayette High School in 1952 where he excelled in baseball.
Shortly after graduation he worked briefly for Shell Oil Company in Lafayette and enrolled in Chenier’s Radio School in Beaumont. From 1954 – 1956 he served in the United States Army in South Korea. He was extremely proud of his time in the military and his service to his country.
It was while in Beaumont that he met his wife, Mary Anne Loomer. They were wed at St. Anthony’s Cathedral in Beaumont on July 28, 1956.
Jimmy was employed as a part-time postal worker while attending Lamar University where he graduated in 1961 with a Bachelor’s degree in Education. After working as a lab technician at DuPont Chemical for a brief time, Jimmy began his career in education as a coach at Giles Elementary in 1963.
In 1968 Jimmy earned his Master’s degree from University of Southwestern Louisiana.
In the fall of 1968, he was hired as a coach at the newly-opened Memorial Jr. High, which was later renamed Vincent.
He spoke often of his wonderful co-workers and students during his time at Vincent Jr. High where he coached football, basketball, and track. In 1975 he became head coach at Vincent. It was a job he truly loved.
In 1978 Jimmy left coaching behind to serve as assistant principal at Vincent for three years and at Forest Park High School for one year before being named as principal at Pietzsch Elementary in 1982. In 1986 he obtained his superintendent certification from Lamar. Jimmy eventually returned to Vincent in 1985 where he served as principal until his retirement in January 1990.
Upon retirement he relocated to Round Rock, Texas, where he remained busy serving for one year as principal at St. Mary’s school in Taylor and then hiring on with the Round Rock Express baseball club in Round Rock for 15 seasons from their inaugural season in 2000 through 2014. He made a tremendous amount of friends while working at Dell Diamond and remained close to the game he loved.
Jimmy was predeceased by his parents, Noelie and Leonce Breaux; his brothers, Claude Guidry and Louis Breaux; his sisters, Rena Mouton and Hilda Duhon; and his grandson, Kristopher Breaux. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mary Anne Breaux of Round Rock; his son and daughter-in-law, Kyle and Diane Breaux of Round Rock; his daughter, Kimberly Renee Breaux of Austin; and his grandson, Brandon Breaux and his wife, Cassie of Hutto. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and close friends, all of whom he dearly loved and were an important part of his life.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at St David’s Hospital in Round Rock, Compassus Care, & Curana Health. Their loving care, kindness, and professionalism are beyond reproach. Words cannot express the family’s gratitude for the care and comfort they provided.

He was a good coach and even better person. His guidance as a coach and an educator were much appreciated. The lessons learned from him on not only good sportsmanship, but also good citizenship were traits I try to instill in my children and my grandchildren today.
My heart goes out to the Breaux family for their loss and find comfort in knowing Coach Breaux was one of the good ones!
Sending all of the Reho’s condolences…coach, was a dear friend to our dad’s, Joe….they were educators together, coach against each other, our parents played bridge and it seems that every social events, they were always together…do hope that all of your sorrows will turn to glorious memories
Jimmy is an old friend from Lafayette days, where he lived across from N.P. Moss Middle School and we attended school there. Our days in Beaumont are also good memories with him and Mary Anne. We took many trips to Colorado and New Mexico with mutual friends; Maude and Bob Henderson, Pam Sargle and deceased friends the Clarks and Colemans. I cannot say enough about the love shared through the years.
His family are also treasured memories. Our prayers go out to Kyle and Kim and their families. May Jimmy rest in peace.
He was one of the nicest men I ever meet i had the up most respect for him .especially my time 1979 to 1981
One of my favorite coaches at Memorial Jr High. Will never forget him shooting a basketball over the folding walls into the basket! He was a great coach, mentor and educator! My condolences go to the family. Thank you coach Breaux for great memories!
