Janice Terrell Rightmer

January 11, 1942 - April 11, 2026

Janice Terrell Rightmer went to be with her Lord and Savior, and her loving husband, on April 11, 2026. Janice was born to Sadie Lee Bynum Fisk and William Winfield Fisk, Sr. in Lufkin, Texas, on January 11, 1942. She graduated from Galena Park High School in 1960. Soon after, she met the love of her life, Kenneth Carrol Rightmer, and they were married in September 1961.

Janice and Kenneth shared 50 adventurous years of marriage, during which they traveled and devoted their lives to raising their two daughters, Kim and Julie. During that time, they welcomed four grandchildren, who were the apple of their eye. Later in life, Kim had the pleasure of introducing Victoria Brockhoeft, who quickly became another beloved member of the family.

Throughout her life, Janice encouraged many students with her love for the Lord and her musical talent. She was a Sunday school teacher for decades and enriched the lives of so many children for more than 50 years. She had a passion for University of Texas football, her family, her church family and friends, and astronomy. Her grandchildren lovingly referred to her not only as “Grandmommy,” but also as “Short Stack.” She was known for her quick wit and wonderful sense of humor.

She is survived by her daughters, Kimberly Susan Rightmer Miller and Julie Ann Rightmer Riggs; her sister and brother-in-law, Peggy Fisk Derouen and Terry; her sister-in-law, Betty Jean Rightmer Martin; her grandson, Joshua Miller and wife, Chrisleigh; her grandson, Cody Riggs; her granddaughter, Rebekah Miller; her granddaughter, Moriah Stevenson and husband, Chris; her great-grandchildren, Trenton Roccaforte and wife, Taryn, Parker Kate Soriano, Zion Everett Stevenson, Ella Jo Stevenson, and Jireh James Stevenson; along with numerous nieces and nephews and a soon-to-be great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Winfield Fisk, Sr. and Sadie Lee Bynum Fisk; her husband, Kenneth Rightmer; her brother, William Winfield Fisk, Jr.; her sister, Billie Carolyn Mooney, and her husband, John; her two nephews, Johnny and Steven Mooney; and her great-grandchildren, the Miller twins, who were born in Heaven.

The family would like to thank her two loving caregivers, Stephanie Caleb and Shawn Scott, to whom they owe much gratitude.

Memorial contributions may be made in Janice’s honor to First Baptist Church Nederland Children’s Ministry, 1911 Nederland Avenue, Nederland, Texas 77627, or to Joy of Living Bible Study at First Baptist Church Groves, 4000 Grant Avenue, Groves, Texas 77619.
