Jean Pesnell Yarbrough
Jean Pesnell Yarbrough, 93, formerly of Beaumont, Texas, and Gardendale, Alabama, passed away March 14, 2022, at her residence in Auburn, Alabama. She was born December 17, 1928, in Alabama to Jim and Bertha Pesnell. Jean is predeceased by her husband of 68 years, James (Jim) Cottingham Yarbrough.
Jean is survived by her brother, James (Jim) Pesnell and his wife, Pat, of Chattanooga, Tennessee; her three children, Gayle Yarbrough Rhoads and her husband, Rocky, of Beaumont, Texas; Sue Yarbrough Gober and her husband, Tom, of Auburn, Alabama; and Bob Yarbrough and his wife, Leslie, of Hume, Virginia; her grandchildren, Todd Gober and his wife, Leslie, of Birmingham, Alabama; Mandy Gober Harris and her husband, Joe, of Houston, Texas; Mariel Yarbrough Murphy and her husband, Joe, of Westminster, Colorado; her great-grandchildren, Peyton Gober of Auburn, Alabama, and Brooke Gober of Birmingham, Alabama; and several nephews and nieces.
Family was always important to Jean, and she loved family vacations. When her grandchildren were young, she and husband Jim started a tradition of taking each grandchild on an annual trip to faraway places.
Baking scratch-made goodies for family and friends was one of Jean’s favorite activities, including her famous chocolate pound cake with fudge icing. She was a member of P.E.O. and was active in the Hamaca Sunday School Class at Trinity United Methodist Church. She enjoyed her many friends at Calder Woods Retirement Community, where she lived for several years prior to moving to Auburn, Alabama.
A gathering of Jean’s family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m., with the Christian service in celebration of her life starting at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 1, 2022, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Her interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 4955 Pine Street, Beaumont.
