Jerry Allen Yancey
Jerry Allen Yancey was born on February 19, 1943, in San Diego, California to John Woodrow Yancey, Sr. and Alice Gertrude Barnett. He went to his heavenly home on August 6, 2024, in China, Texas, surrounded by his loving family. He was eighty-one years old.
Jerry was part of the last graduating class of China High School in 1961. When he graduated high school, he joined the military in 1961 and served eight years in the United States Navy. Jerry was a Beaumont firefighter for several years and retired from Lower Neches Valley authority after thirty-one years.
Jerry was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of China. He accepted Jesus as his personal Savior at an early age. Jerry would tell anyone he met about his Jesus. When he retired in 2005, he started a Cross Ministry. He passed out wooden pocket crosses, called my caring cross, to anyone he met who needed comfort in Jesus. He would ask if they would recite John 3:16, sometimes he would recite it to them. He continued this ministry until his death.
Jerry had a love of gardening, fishing with his flyrod, and camping with his family. He was interested in researching genealogy and some interesting relatives in his past, such as a pirate and a signer of the Declaration of Independence.
He had one single favorite food that he loved and that was watermelon. He enjoyed eating it from his childhood until days before his death and didn’t like to share.
He met his loving wife, Nancy, at a revival and they were married on September 28, 1974. Together they raised three sons and went on many camping trips and fun vacations.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Nancy Perkins Yancey; sons, Jesse, Brian, and Wesley and his wife, Melanie, all of China; grandson, Dylan Yancey from Lumberton; brother, John W. Yancey, Jr. “Woody” and his wife, Diana, of China; sister-in-law, Connie Hartt of Davis, California; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and half-sister, Connie Beard.
Jerry lived a long life filled with love and adventure. He will be truly missed.
The family would like to express their gratitude for the excellent care he received from Intrepid Hospice. We would like to thank Jami, Stephanie, Tara, and Cory for the care and love they showed Jerry. You are the best.

Nancy, Brian, Jesse, Wesley, Dylan: these days will be tough but remember you have each other. Boys, take care of your mom. Nancy, I remember the days Jerry and Joe would shoot the bull. They were so funny together, right? So remember all the good days/life you shared with Jerry. He’s only changed addresses. He’s always there in your heart. Love you sister 💕

Nancy and family, I am so sorry for your loss. Praying for comfort during this difficult time.
Jerry was ‘One of a Kind’ and I will miss him but am rejoicing for him. Have fond memories when we shared quality cousins time after he was discharged from the Navy. I was proud to introduce him to my friends and we often double dated. He was a man of high standards and respected. For the last several years we spent a lot of time on the phone-FaceTime- and he enjoyed reminiscing. Jerry never failed to share his love for Jesus and his assurance of salvation. I know he was met face to face by his personal savior and then family and friends. What a beautiful reunion! Jerry, enjoy eating watermelon on those beautiful lakes in heaven, talking to Jesus and observing beautiful sunsets. I will see you soon. Meanwhile we will all love and support Nancy and your sons with our prayers, words of encouragement and hugs.
This breaks my heart. Jerry was my neighbor my friend, and my first cousin. we grew up as children, , teen-agers and later as old people exchanging stories and memories across the fence. but lately in his living room. We would often talk about religion. We respected each others Faith. I am Catholic. but we know we have the same God and Jesus. I would sometime bring him Chocolate cookies. I will miss that. I will miss the visits down memory lane, but most of all Jerry I will miss you. I love youlike the brother I never had . God Bless your Beautiful Family
Nancy I’m so sorry for your loss my prayers and thoughts are with you and your family
I’m so sorry for your loss. I enjoyed the last visit where he was lucid. He shared his knowledge about China and history of FBCC. He was so excited to have some one new listening to his stories. This is the hardest part of getting older. We begin to lose friends and loved ones we are not ready to part with.
Jerry I am sure there was a beautiful homecoming when you received your new whole body. You are loved and will greatly be missed.
You will be missed ..
RIP ol Friend
Hope you find a place to fish up there .. I will never forget all the crappie we used to catch with you at the pump station .. when you were on nights and the mayflies would come in …
good times
Sorry for the loss of Mr. Jerry. You all are in my prayers.
Nancy we are saddened by your loss. May God bless and comfort you and your family!
