Jerry Miers
With a heavy heart, we announce the passing of Jerry Miers, 81, of Nederland. Surrounded by his family, he passed peacefully on Sunday, November 10, 2024.
Jerry was born at home to Sampson Miers and Frances Whiddon Miers on June 14, 1943, in DeRidder, Louisiana. He spent his early years running barefoot and riding pine saplings with his brothers and cousins in Graybow. He graduated from DeRidder High School in 1961. Jerry soon enlisted in the Air Force where he spent time in Germany and Pakistan.
Upon returning home, Jerry started his career as a process operator at Neches Butane. He met and married the love of his life, Frances Carroll Miers, who he affectionately called, Sweetheart. Together they made a home in Nederland, Texas to raise their growing family.
When he wasn’t working, Jerry loved to tinker in his garage. He enjoyed woodworking and made many pieces of furniture for his family and friends. Swing sets, wagons, trains, and all kinds of cars and trucks were among the treasures he made for his grandsons. He was always eager to help anyone with a project, including DIY projects at Hillcrest Baptist Church, where he was a member for many years. In addition, Jerry was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed watching every sport, even a good marble match. Jerry spent his later years bragging about his grandsons to anyone that would listen. He was dearly loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-six years, Frances Miers; children, Myndi Munoz and her husband, John, and Michael Miers and his wife, Mandy; grandchildren, Dade Miers, Cooper Munoz, and Anthony Munoz; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Sammy Miers and Charles Fred Miers.
A gathering of Mr. Miers’ family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, November 14, 2024, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. I became his neighbor 7 years ago . Probably the only neighbor I had conversation and made me feel at home here in Nederland. Always helpful with what was going on with my house. Would see his garage door open and I always just peeped over to see what he was working on or just to talk to Mr Jerry as we called him. We’re going to miss you Mr Jerry! Our condolences to Family and Mrs Frances!
Just loved Jerry. Always has a smile and a chuckle.

I have worked with Michael for many years and consider him a dear friend. He spoke of his father often, I admire the love and respect he always showed for him. I know he will be greatly missed by all. I hope that in time, the beautiful moments you shared with him will bring you comfort, and that his love will always surround you, even as you grieve.
